When you know, you know?

Since I started thinking about college, I always pictured myself at a large, diverse and urban setting. I want to apply to schools like NYU, BU, USF. But, this week I saw Wellseley (I didn't want to look - I didn't want a small, enclosed all girls school), and I KNEW it was the school for me. As soon as we entered the town I got a feeling and when we left, I was crying because I felt like I KNEW I found the perfect school. And it was unlike anything I've felt when visiting schools. Maybe because it reminds me of my HS? Idk. But, do you guys believe when you know, you KNOW?

No, or at least not everyone. That's why people struggle in April to make a decision and have to post X vs. Y threads for help. It's awesome that you know where you want to go, though. :)

the only thing is that i'm petrified i won't get in :(

trust your intuition. We know a lot of things without being consciously aware of why. For example you meet someone and you might have a strong feeling this will be a friend or this is someone you'll never get along with, even though you don't have an explicit list of the "30 things I require in a friend" or how they would have scored on the list. Same thing with college; something about the school resonated with you.

It might be helpful to look at other schools that are similar, though, because even though there's only one Wellesley there are other schools that can provide much of the same feel.

I agree...when I knew, I just knew.

It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who cried when they left their dream school!

flutterbyhigh and bing, I am so jealous!!!! I really wish I knew what college I want to go to! I have already been admitted to 2 schools I'm seriously considering and I have a feeling, come April, I'll be stuck with a very difficult decision.

shellzie, perhaps try sleeping on it to make your decision. according to an article, "When it comes to making tough decisions - don't sweat it, sleep on it - or so a team of scientists recommends." See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4723216.stm

I've recommended this for a long time. One way to do it when decision time comes, don't wait until the day you have to mail back your decision to decide. Instead, make your choice and then fill out all the paperwork. Write the check, put the forms in the envelope, and then don't mail it. Put in on your desk and wait until the morning. If you wake up with a pleasant feeling and are glad its all over, you made the right choice. If you wake up with a sinking feeling in your stomach and thoughts of "OMG what did I do?" running thru your head, that tells you something too.

Thanks for the advice, mikemac- interesting article.
