When You Tell People You've Gotten into USC do you . . .

Well played, Jose!

Let’s see…6 national championships in a row for the SEC and counting. “Southern Cal” most famous alumni: OJ Simpson. That’s a racial equality person to be darn proud of…and Pete Caroll was a cheating bufoon…but I digress.

^ and buffoon is spelled with two f’s, but I digress, lol

Dear Stoned,

You can cite all the National Championships you want for “Team SEC” and make up any lies about Carroll you want. (I love how the argument always winds up being USC v an entire conference and even when we point out USC’s record vs that conference, you have to deflect.) The bottom line is, none of those “Team SEC” champs had to face USC. It is a reflection of your ignorance that, among all the famous and distinguished people to graduate from USC, all you can point to is OJ. But then, no one ever expected graduates from SEC schools, outside of Vandy, to be informed.

Southern Cal is a non-entity and has been for the past 5 years…that’s why Pete Caroll, a living joke, ran out of there - and let’s see, who did that fine institution of higher learning replace him with? Another in a long line of cheating coaches…congrats! Basically, they suck. And half the graduates aren’t working, but OJ gets 3 squares a day. Let me guess - you graduated from USC with a degree in journalism but have been out of work for 3 years…kind of like the football team nobody even talks about down south. When you join a real conference where they play football vs. surfing, talk to me. Heck, I’d settle for them being mediocre if they could crack the top 10.

Stone,
You are making generalizations that have no basis in fact. Please post the data backing your statement regarding employment of SC graduates.

Here is some information about SEC universities and their academic rankings. I am posting statistics from each individual website. There are different rankings, but used here is U.S. News. Also added is the admit rate for each institution.

SC’s students participate in many sports, both men and women. The athletic heritage is not only about US national collegiate titles, but also an outstanding record in the Olympics. Here are some highlights:

Trojan men have won a national best of 79 team NCAA titles. Women have won 23 team titles. This year SC has the opportunity of winning another tennis and water polo national championship as well as individual swimming events.

SC has won the National College All-Sports Championship 6 times since 1971.

Trojan men have won the most individual national titles of any university. Women of Troy have brought home 60 individual national titles.

Four Trojans have won the prestigious Sullivan Award as the top amateur athlete in America. A possible fifth is a semi-finalist this year with the announcement coming in late March.

Trojan women have won 23 Honda awards as the top female athlete in their sport.

Football players have won the Outland Trophy, Lombardi Award, Thorpe Award, Butkus Award, Mackey Award and the Bednarik Award. All Americans are 156.

In the NFL draft SC has had 75 first round draft choices, best in the nation. Five Trojans were the No. 1 choice, also a record.

In baseball SC has won 12 national championships. The closest to that record is 6. They have won 38 conference championships. First team All Americans in baseball are 43.

Men’s swimming and diving has been a star sport at SC. The men have had 131 Olympians with 41 gold medals, 23 silver and 19 bronze. USC swimmers and divers have won 112 meet individual and relay titles An amazing 582 were All Americans.

At the 1976 Olympics Trojan swimmers won more golds and more total medals than any COUNTRY in swimming…except the USA.

SC athletes have received 51 Post Graduate Scholarships, in the top ten among all schools. The Trojans have had 29 first team Academic All Americans and four Rhodes Scholars. The Athletic Director at SC is a Rhodes Scholar alumnus.

To be continued…

"because some people actually think it is a branch of Cal. " Too many people in administration are afraid of the big bad wolf and the boogeyman.

Caltech is mistaken for a another polytechnic in California and UPenn is mistaken for a state school. USC is being mistaken for USC down south too.

Does it make any difference to the colleges and their current and former students?

It’s a kick when people from an athletic conference of academically third-rate schools start railing against USC. It’s called “envy.”

The Pac-12 has 4 universities that are rated top 25 academically (Stanford, Cal, USC, UCLA) and 5 (+Washington) that are rated in the top 50. The SEC only has Vanderbilt in the top 50.

The top three schools when it comes to total NCAA championships are all in the Pac-12 (Stanford, USC, UCLA.)

The SEC may be able to beat other football teams, but they still can’t beat USC. Lane Kiffen hopped on the first mule out of Tennessee because even he was embarrassed being in a conference where Hillbilly Handfishin’ was considered an Honors program.

ROLOL @ Stoned! USC is a “non-entity”, yet you’re so obsessed that you post here ? For a school that is meaningless to you, you sure spend an awful lot of time here. Envy on!

As of 12/2011 the top 3 schools with the most NCAA championships are:

 1. UCLA with 108
 2. Stanford with 102
 3. USC with 94

…and, of course, all 3 are Top 25 National Universities. Not that I’m a “conference” homer…

Wait - you’re comparing Southern Cal to Stanford? That’s like comparing OJ Simpson to Tim Tebow…but I digress, again. And I noticed you skipped over the stats for “SC”

Just to clarify…

SC men have won 303 INDIVIDUAL NCAA titles

SC women have won 63 INDIVIDUAL NCAA titles. They won three this weekend at the swim and diving NCAA championships, which will end tomorrow

SC men’s TEAMS have won over 70 team titles. The women’s teams started later and have won 23 TEAM titles.

GA Girl,

I think Stoned is referring to the academic ranking stats you posted for the SEC schools. Obviously, anyone who follows this forum is well aware that USC ranks 23rd nationally with a 24 percent acceptance rate according to US News and World Report. Trolling on USC over athletics is pathetic enough. But anyone from Team SEC trolling on USC for academics, save for Vandy grads, is laughable. And judging from the poor quality of Stoned’s posts, I’m confident he is no Vandy grad.

Wheretonow,

I’m fairly certain football NC are not counted in the number of NCAA championships, since there is no official NCAA championship playoff for that sport. If you count those, USC jumps Stanford. Plus USC just added another NC in the last week.
(And if anyone is confused about Southern Cal v. South Carolina, the Gamecocks finally got their FIRST and only team men’s national title in 2010 for baseball.)

Oh, and USC has sent more athletes to the Olympics than any other University in the country.

Actually USC (south carolina) has won two national baseball championships in a row…I know counting isn’t a strong suit for a Southern Cal grad “If the glove doesn’t fit, you must acquit!”

If you google USC you get SoCal. And since google knows all, USC is SoCal and SC is south carolina

And SkyNet: [usc - Wolfram|Alpha](<a href=“usc]usc - Wolfram|Alpha”>usc - Wolfram|Alpha)

USC = southern california, not south carolina.

fact 1: university of southern california was founded in 1880
fact 2: university of south carolina was founded as south carolina college in 1801. it wasn’t until 1906 that SCC was officially chartered as the university of south carolina.

1880 vs 1906. so tell me again, which is the real USC?
