Skidmore was recently named by MSNBC as one of the "new Ivies"
Here is what they said about the school:

Skidmore College
Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
Consider the location: a picturesque small city (with good restaurants) that's three hours from New York, Boston and Montreal. That's great for students who don't want to study in an urban area, yet want access to big cities. Skidmore offers a broad curriculum, with traditional majors in the liberal arts and sciences, but also in subjects like management and business. The college is strong as well in individual and performing arts. Saratoga Springs has the oldest Thoroughbred racetrack in the United States. It's the permanent summer home of the New York City Ballet and the Philadelphia Orchestra. The school runs its own programs in London, Spain, Paris, India and Beijing, and is affiliated with many other overseas programs. Overlap schools: Vassar, Connecticut College, Wesleyan and NYU.

I got in from CA today too.
The handwritten note was pretty nice...I wonder if other colleges do that as well?

Groyl: Why would you apply if you know nothing about the school? Just curious.

congrats to everyone who got accepted. i did get that book with all of the anonymous student quotes about the school. from what i have seen, i would say that the drinking scene is bigger than the drug scene - but then again i don't participate in either, so i'm probably not the best one to ask. diversity isn't that great, but it's something we're trying to work on as there are several related events coming up on campus.

the london program isn't a waitlist...you're fully accepted to the school.

The Skidmore waitlist letter for my daughter arrived yesterday... i guess the mail is coming out all week long.

my college counselor suggested it and said she thought i'd like it. i needed some match/safety schools and didnt really know any.

emizzly--thanks for clearing that up! the letter i got didn't seem to say the same thing--it said that if i chose not to attend the london opportunity, i could only attend skidmore in the fall if i put my name on a waitlist. otherwise, i was fully accepted for the spring semester.
anyway, i've already sent in the reply card saying that i won't be attending so it doesn't matter. i hope that it frees up a spot on the actual waitlist. this is a rough week! good luck to everyone.

For those accepted, make your decision wisely. Its a lot easier making the right choice the first time around. I turned down skidmore honors last year, and now im transferring back to skidmore! (from BC). Congrats again...
