Skidmore RD 2023

Starting the thread for regular decision, class of 2023.

Heyy,
I also applied to skidmore RD.

Do you happen to know when decisions will come out?

My friend just told me that she got a call saying she received the Porter Presidential Scholarship. I guess they tell you your admission decision early if you get one of these scholarships. Bummer. Looks like I didn’t get one lol

No call for my DD- guess she didn’t get it either. I have a decision date in my calendar for March 22 (snail mailing)- don’t recall where I saw that. Anyone else have an idea what the date could be?

@toomanykiddos I wouldn’t give up all hope yet—I was just reading the regular decision thread from last year and one person said he was informed about the porter scholarship in his acceptance letter. My friend who got the call about the scholarship lives on the West Coast and the admissions office want to fly her out to see the campus. Perhaps that’s why they informed her early? I’m not sure. Maybe she’s just a special case.

Oh also I saw that people were receiving their letters in the mail around 3/26, so they probably send them out around 3/22

Last year they announced that they sent RD letters (snail mail) on 3/23 to domestic applicants. Most people received letters on 3/26.

As the mom of a Skidmore senior (eek how did that happen?), I’d like to share that while it’s sweet that Skidmore informs students old school, via snail mail, it isn’t easy to live outside the east coast and wait days longer for news. I think we had three full days of reading about acceptances on CC before my son received his envelope. (We live in the Midwest.) Good luck to all of you. Skidmore has been a dream college for my son. He has received a fantastic education and made wonderful lifelong friends. He had other great options, but Skidmore’s mix of academics, housing, student organizations, and location made it his first choice, and we will be forever grateful for the college experience has had there.

I received my call about the Porter Scholarship from an AO last week! I am so excited. I got a confirmation package in the mail yesterday

@worldofwonder14 if you don’t mind, can you post your stats?? Im just trying to get a feel of what kind of students gets this scholarship. You don’t have to if you don’t want to. No obligation lol. But I’m sure it’ll be helpful to some kid next year who’s thinking about applying for this scholarship.

One more question: If you’re from out of state, did they say they were going to fly you out to come visit? My friend said they were going to but now she’s not sure. Can you confirm?

@misspeanut Over the phone, the AO said the school would pay for me to visit the school. She didn’t specifically say they would pay for me to “fly”. I live in ma, so it’s about a 7 or 8 hour car ride, which is how I initially toured with my mom, but it’s her busy work season and she can’t drive me right now. I haven’t emailed them yet, but I am going to confirm if they are planning to pay for the bus/plane ride, and from what I understand, I believe they would be because they really want us to visit and attend. If your friend is from farther away than ma, I’m sure they would definitely pay to fly her out, just tell her to email them.

My stats are lol
SAT I: 1520
SAT II Math II: 760
SAT II Bio: 720
GPA UW: 95.97, 95.88 after midyear
But for anyone who is applying next year, what I have seen is don’t focus too much on your stats because the Porter Scholarship essay is probably the most important aspect. If you show that you have a passion for STEM through the essay and extracurriculars, they’ll believe you regardless of how well your test scores reflect it.

1bamom - As the mother of a son starting in the fall it is great to hear that your son has had such a wonderful experience at Skidmore. We are very excited about Skidmore! It was our son’s first choice and he can’t wait to get started.

Last week I received an email saying I wasn’t a finalist for the Filene music scholarship. Today I was notified that I in fact AM a finalist and that I’m accepted to Skidmore! I’m certainly confused (and delighted) but will contact admissions to see what’s up.

Are there any international students who got accepted or received the porter scholarship?

@worldofwonder14 Congratulations on the Porter Scholarship. Just a heads up, I think the furthest travel from any point in MA to Skidmore is about 5 hours…I know this because that is where we live and my D is a senior there. Getting to Saratoga via bus is a a real pain, you have to go through Boston and so it takes forever. Depending on where you live, you might want to fly and then cab from ALB to Saratoga (if they school is paying). Its a very short flight and about a 30 minute ride from the airport to the college. The travel part of attending Skidmore was the only negative we have encountered but it was fixed by making sure D had vehicle of her own to get back and forth. If you’d like more info, feel free to PM me.

@1bamom, another Skidmore senior mom here. My daughter also has cherished her Skidmore years. So very grateful that she made the right choice. Envious of all that are just beginning their journey there.

My daughter is starting in the fall too, and yes, it’s great to read those kind of glowing reviews. She is so excited!

We are going up for April 15 accepted students day. You?

@NEPatsGirl You’re totally right. I looked it up and it’s only a four hour drive from my house! I must have confused Skidmore with another NY school haha. The travel situation is good to know about. Did your daughter use her car on campus at Skidmore at all or was it more just for traveling? And did she have to pay to park there?
