My daughter is swimmer, entering 10th grade this fall. She loves swimming and has her first national cut. She'd like to swimming in a college.
She is a solid student: Straight A 9th grade and SAT 1850 (taken at 8th grade but does not count). she will take 2 AP at 10th grade.
We, as a family, has no experience on college sports recruiting process. Do not know when, where and how to start or should we just sit tight and wait coaches approaching her. Could you please share your experience?

It’s pretty unlikely that any swimming coaches from any major schools will just find her. I’d recommend speaking with your daughter’s coach, they will have an idea of the process. As for when, usually not until 11th grade begins.

Sounds like she’s a talented athlete with very good academics, that’s a great place to be. But it’s still very early. Over the course of the next year she should just concentrate on her academics and swimming, no need to throw the stress of recruiting into the mix yet.

Assuming she still loves the sport by her junior year, you should have pretty good handle on which schools may be a good fit academically and athletically. At that point you should initiate contact with the coaches.

My two cents…In addtion to what has been offered, I would start visiting nearby pubic/private, large/medium/small colleges to see what she likes and doesn’t like, as well as researching what is possible with her academics and athletics. The junior year is unbelieveably stressful for students. Anything that gives her an idea of what she is looking for (prior to junior year) is a leg up and a huge time saver.

Our coaches were useless. I started having my S visit likely schools as a soph-when they were in session-one or two at a time. He is a recruited Swimmer at Midd now.
Swimming recruiting in the NESCACs doesn’t heat up until after the season Junior year, so you have plenty of time. When you submit those all-important Junior year SAT scores, the interest will begin. By that time my S had visited 10 schools and already ruled out 5-we visited a couple more later that spring, had second visits at his favs and met with coaches, and got invited for “official” visits Senior year Fall over the summer.
NESCACs do NOT do “likely letters” and there are a lot of reasons to apply ED, so best to get narrowed down beforehand.
