Where are the MPA, MPP, Political Science people?

Yeah.. I know the feeling...the grad school admission process is so stressful.. I'm glad it's over.

Good luck in grad school.

And Tenighs..good luck preparing for the graduate admissions process.

latoya,

I still haven't heard from NYU, but at this point to hell with them.

I was considering applying to NYU, since I am originally from NY. But I decided that I couldn't afford to live in NY as a grad student...unless I rented from a fam member... sigh

Oh NY how i miss you? I'll be back someday...hehe

I was accepted to UDelaware, American, and JHU

I'm going to Delaware (my alma mater)

omg.. . when will the usnews board be back up?

It's up, last time I checked.

Oh, I got into NYU, but no funding. UCSD is still it then.

Has anyone made any final decisions?

bump.................

Not quite yet :- /

I just completed my MPA at Marist College. I enjoyed the program a great deal I was able to work full time while in school. The program was really flexible, I was allowed to take online classes as well as on the ground courses. I also served as a research assistant to one of the professor. We are in the process of trying to get some of the research results published. In short, I enjoyed and loved the program.

Lookin ahead to next school year...I'm planning to apply to public affairs grad programs. I'll be graduating next summer with a BA PoliSci from American. I've interned for Sens Stabenow and Kennedy, and will probably transfer to the Senate HELP committee next semester. I'm also in the BA/MPA program at American, though I'm exploring other options. I'm hoping to get some feedback from people who have been through the process, or have looked at these programs:

Michigan
Duke
Princeton
NYU
Harvard
Syracuse
Berkeley
Wisconsin
Columbia

I'm searching for a program that is not as heavily-quantitatively-based. The MPA programs fit well because they emphasize management/admin, though some MPP programs emphasize those aspects as well. I'm also looking to study politics (as opposed to polisci) and health policy.

Thanks a lot!

hp2355a,

If I can offer any advice, it's to get work experience. Preferably 2 to 3 years in a substantive environment. Unless you have incredible grades, and a great GRE (I'm talking 95th percentile in all three), you'd best have at least a year of work experience.

Especially for the top 5-10 programs.

Sure. I know my deficiencies; know the hits against me--but i've talked to the admissions directors at a few schools, and i think i have a fighting chance. I could always fall back onto American (which is a top-10 MPA program). At least I'm going to try. So specifically, I'm hoping to get some lowdown on the schools.

Pfft..."fall back."

I love CC.com, where top 10 is a "fallback."

You definitely have a fighting chance, but what would hurt you (in my opinion) is how little funding you'd probably end up with. Most of my friends who got good funding packages had those years of experience.

Anyway, I think that Syracuse is a good option, as is Harvard.

How are your GRE scores?

Northwestern SCS

MPPA program (Public Safety and Security Concentration)

I start this fall.
