Hi,
If possibly, could y’all give me some idea of what level school I could get into? I want to major in nursing. After school, I want to help bring medical card to impoverished communities (like a missionary nurse). Below is some info about me.
Note: At my school, unless you transfer from homeschooling and have had the opportunity to take more advanced courses, we can only start taking AP courses Junior year. Also, we have less than 10 AP classes available (which are only available once a day) and we do not have an IB program, as it is a small school.
Freshman Grades:
Honors English: A
Honors Geometry: A
Bible (required class and only CP): A
Physical Science (only CP): A
World History (only CP): A
Yearbook: A
Sophomore Grades (as of 3rd quarter):
Honors Civics/ Economics: A
Honors English: A
Bible (still required and CP): A
Honors Algebra 2: A
Chorale (will be honors junior and senior year): A
Honors Biology: A
Extracurricular:
-I participate in theatre weekly at Spiritual Twist Productions and am in 2-3 shows a year.
-I volunteer to help run a younger theatre class at the same place weekly and help them put on a full production.
-I am apart of the school praise team which helps lead the school in worship during chapel.
-I was part of the Girls Buddies Club and will be co-directing it next year.
-Although Chorale is a class, I count it as an extracurricular because we perform at many church concerts throughout the year and are performing at Carnegie Hall this summer.
-I am part of Beta Club.
Other things:
-I did All-State choir.
-I was elected as Sophomore representative for homecoming.
In th next two years, I plan to continue all of my extra curricular and I hope to get involved in more volunteering that have to do with nursing (there is a local medical ministry I hope to get involved with in some way). Academically, I hope to continue to take as many honors and AP classes as possible, hoping to take 2 AP classes next year and 4 my senior year.
There are so many schools that would live to have you: Boston College; University of Pennsylvania; Arizona State, - just to name a few. Look up Nursing Schools. There are many that would be blessed to have you matriculate. Best of luck!
Academically, you are tracking to be competitive for the highest tier of colleges. Your medical card services will work as a very compelling essay topic. If you want to be truly competitive in all aspects of your application, find an extra-circular that lends leadership. Leadership is virtually the only aspect that is missing from your application. Also, definitely try to intern at the medical ministry to gain pertinent, applicable experience. If you can continue your academic rigor and successfully find internships that offer leadership/experience, you will have a good chance at getting into the nation’s top nursing programs, assuming you do well on your SAT/ACT. Good luck.
Well the volunteer position I’m apart of is essentially leadership, I just didn’t go into much detail about it. Also, do you have any tips for getting an internship? It’s really hard to find medical internships around me as the hospitals aren’t very open to youth volunteering and the place I’m thinking about volunteering only has positions that are open 1-2 times a month. Other than that, thank you so much for your input!
You should look into applying for the Notre Dame Leadership Seminar summer program for the summer before your senior year (you apply as a junior by early February and hear back in March) It’s a two week long program that is very competitive to get accepted to (only 100 spots for about 900 applicants). Your stats look great, though, and they’ll love to see all the Christian activities and medical interest. I just applied for this summer (waiting to hear back!) and am really hoping I get in. The best part about the program is that it’s FREE including transportation to the University of Notre Dame (I think there’s a $150 deposit but that’s nothing compared to the $3000+++ programs that kids attend nowadays…). That’s why this program looks so appealing to colleges when you’re applying - because they know it’s extremely competitive and not just a money bank that wealthy kids go to. There are three programs of focus that you can attend, and I think you would mostly be interested in the “Science, Ethics, and Responsibility” one.
