Sorry to bring up a dead thread, but I need to vent after recent encounters brought me back to my admissions experience.

Top choices, in order, were MIT, Harvard, Princeton, Dartmouth/Vanderbilt (tie), UNC Chapel Hill, Duke
In that order.
Deferred at MIT before rejection, rejected at HPD, waitlisted at Vandy, accepted early at UNC and regular at Duke.
What the heck? Duke is way better than Vandy (annoyed to no end), and is easily a toss up with Dartmouth on any given day. Obviously, its no surprise to be rejected at HPM due to really insanely low acceptance rates, but I thought I'd get in to one. I filled out recruitment forms for all schools (legitimately for MIT, Princeton, Vanderbilt--as in good enough to be on team) and stayed in perpetual contact with the MIT coach. My friend, a complete cheater in everything but a freaking genius, gets in everywhere he applies, including Vandy. I had phenomenal community service and was recognized by it, captain, good test scores, 3 in class, great recs. DARN!!! It is so frustrating.

Rejected from University of Florida as a transfer into the business school. I had a 3.98/4.0 in prereqs from the CC in the same city that is supposedly the feeder for transfers in. Transfer admissions got reduced/I finished my app requirements (HS transcripts) on the last day. They admitted over the phone they didn't look at my app because they had already accepted over their new limit after budget problems made them drastically reduce admissions to transfers at the last second (well after app deadline). Needless to say I was pretty ****ed off and wanted to strangle the person I was talking to. Any previous semester I would have been pretty much guaranteed.

Now I am applying to Cornell, Claremont McKenna, NYU, and maybe a few other drastically better schools than florida for spring 09 (some safeties too obviously). I really only applied because it was my hometown school and I didn't feel like moving. I was a retard for not applying anywhere else though. I will laugh my ass off if I get into an Ivy or other top school after being rejected by a good but overrated state school.

american! i got into many better schools. i think it was my lack of demonstrated interest in AU that did me in. it was one of those last minute safeties i threw in out of nervousness.

People, this link that george88ab is posting isn't real.

If you look at the blog, you'll see that the blogger remains anonymous and shows nothing that proves that he is an admissions dean at all.

His email is george88ab@yahoo.com, which (1) isn't a legitimate college e-mail; e-mails from admissions deans, students, and professors end in .edu, and (2) is pretty much your screen name.

Google george88ab and this is what you get: a link to a YouTube page of a 19 year old who said that "Obama and Farrakhan are in bed together."

Google george88b and you get a Wikipedia page that says "George _______ is one of the greatest pimps to ever live."

Furthermore, look at the blog's post on June 25, 2008. Now look at the question posted by kt17 here: BIG dilemma!! Anyone can see that, except for the last few sentences, they're exactly the same.
I rest my case.
