Where did your 3.0-3.3 GPA child get in?

@rienrah Thanks for the reply, I’m sorry I didn’t get back to you earlier, I’m still trying to figure out how to navigate back to responses on the site. She isn’t eligible for aid, we do make a decent but not a crazy high living. My husband is self employed in a high risk occupation and I have a good job but have some health issues and may need to downsize my career in the next 1-10 years so we have to be more conservative than our EC shows. Plus we have another daughter. We are waiting on Mercer and a couple of other private LAC’s that are high on her list but we are all pretty excited about Truman State as it has all of her major/minor, and special interests there and is very affordable after the initial merit offer and she still may be in the running for another competitive scholarship. So, we at least have a safe school in our price range and if she gets decent merit from one of the better LAC’s, then we will have to weigh the investment difference for the final decision. We are pretty debt adverse because of our situation but know it may be worth it to up it somewhat for the right place.

I am a senior in High School (Class of 2017) and I figured while applying to college, you can’t get accepted (or rejected of course) if you don’t try. I applied to a lot of schools including Hawaii Pacific University, Florida State, UF, UCLA Penn State Main, Eckerd College (FL), USF-SP, Loyola MD, UMD, and those were just my important ones. I got waitlisted from Florida State and Loyola, but I got accepted to PSU Main Campus Yesterday, as well as Eckerd, USFSP, amd HPU, I got good scholarships from all 3 (still waiting on my official letter of how much from PSU). I am still waiting to hear from my top choice: University of Florida, if I get into there I will be between UF and PSU. I am also waiting for UCLA and UMD. The most amazing feat is I got into PSU University Park with a 3.2 GPA and an 1130/1600 SAT. I do a lot of extracurriculars, and president of key club, involved in spanish club, etc, and I also do 2 varsity sports, as well as honors and AP and had a few jobs. I took a loaded schedule my senior year (3 APs, 2 maths, 2 sciences). I never would have imagined to get into Main but I could not be more ecstatic. If I get into UF it will be a hard choice for sure. Any other questions about my essay or resume I would love to answer. My intended major at PSU is Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences and at UF is Pre-Veterinary.

Is a loaded senior year good for admissions/scholarships, or like just in general?
Because for my senior year im taking
-Homeroom (Unecessary)
-English 4 or whatever English is taken as a senior
-AP Physics 1
-AP Spanish Language and Culture
-AP Studio Art
-AP U.S Government
-Economics
-And Statsistics, I dunno why we dont have Calc…
-So 7 Actual courses, Homeroom doesnt even matter, and four APs… would this be good?

This is a wonderfully helpful thread. Any updates from this year?

My daughter has just around a 3.0 unweighted GPA (3.7w) Has gotten into Siena, UMaine, Allegheny, Washington & Jefferson, and Susquehanna, all with +/- $30,000 scholarships. Still waiting to hear on 8 RD applications.
