Where Do I Apply?-help Needed!

I will be a HS senior in the fall. I have been looking at schools for a few months now, but I'm foggy where to apply based on my stats and major. Planning to take SAT I over again (with some practice this time) in September. I am open to all opinions and suggestions!! My stats are as follows:

GPA: Unweighted- 92/3.7 Weighted- 108/4.3
Rank: Second 10% out of 152 students

SAT I: 1800 (critical reading 680, math 560, writing 560)
SAT II: Hoping to use the ACT instead. Testing in October.

Have only taken Honors classes plus the following AP classes:
Spanish VI
US History
English comp.
English Lit. (this fall)
Government (this fall)
Spanish V (this fall)

Extracurriculars:
Cross Country: 1 year
Tennis: 3 years
Nordic Skiing: 3 years (1 year varsity)
Amnesty International:1 year
Siddartha School Project (intl. charity org): 1 year
Central Africa Vision (intl. charity org): 1 year
Church related activities (general attendance, youth groups, charities, etc):lifetime

Community Service:
Hours unknown, but have done a significant amount through the EC's listed above, my church, and general voluteer work.

Work Experience:
swimming instructor (2yrs), pet sitting biz (1yr)

I plan on majoring in International Relations and eventually going into international law or foreign service later on (focused on human rights and social services rather than business and econ). Generally, I would like to stay in the North East and Mid-Atlantic regions as I am from New England. I prefer urban settings but mostly just looking for the best school for my major.

Here's a list of possible schools:

Far Reaches:
Georgetown
Cornell
Tufts
Johns Hopkins

Reaches:
George Washington University
NYU
UVA
Washington University-St. Louis

Matches:
Boston University
Northeastern
McGill University-Montreal
American University

Safety's
-Looking into a few possible candidates-
(maybe American fits here, i'm not sure)

Any opinions/additions/subtractions are greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!

Hummm....looks like someone read my thread. :)

Looks pretty good...but who am I to say since I'm asking the same advice!

btw Spanish 4 is IV not VI

Actually, I'm in accelerated Spanish so I took Spanish VI (six) prior to Spanish V (five). I'll have to watch your replies, and you can watch mine. Hopefully we will get some good advice between us.

Scooper.. I live in Canada and you should come to McGill or in fact- University of Western Ontario (<a href="http://www.uwo.ca%5B/url%5D">www.uwo.ca</a>) has a very respected business school.. dare I say one of the best in Canada?

no, def. not the best, IVY(grad school at UWO) business school is good, but not the best, U of T is the best :)

I am actually majoring in International Relations....maybe i didn't specify enough before...

I think you have a great list - definitely one of the more realistic people at CC. If you can manage to raise your SAT 150+ points, you can turn some of your reach schools like NYU and UVA into matches.

Any ideas about safety schools? (Keeping in mind they must offer a reputable International Relations (IR/IA/IS) program.

Also, I'm confident my SAT scores will go up, as I originally took the test cold - and now I am busy practicing.

Might want to look at Holy Cross-very good school in New England, as Holy Cross does not require SAT's.

I'm Looking for safety schools that offer an International Relations (IR/IA/IS) major. Schools that (while falling into the safety category) still have respectable programs in IR.

btw... from what I could find Holy Cross does not seem to fit this category.

Can anyone else comment?

Check out: the University of Denver, Lewis & Clark (SAT optional), Drew, Eckerd, Beloit College, Denison, and DePaul U as safe matches. You might also look into Northeastern's international business program.

Butler University
Centre College
Chapman University
Chatham College
Clark University
Fairfield University
Penn State
Rhodes College
Syracuse University
University of Scranton
University of South Carolina
Wesleyan (if you're a girl)
York College of Pennsylvania

All these schools have international relations majors.

Just something to think about. You need to look further into these schools and others and find places you think you could really be happy.
