I know that the people from Top MBA programs go into hedge funds, IB, consulting etc.. But where do the third tier and fourth tier people go?

Can they get positions in popular companies?

They can work anywhere. You need to realize something. Top MBA’s place all over, but there are also a lot of good, regional programs. I live in Philadelphia and I am getting my MBA from Villanova. They are not a top national MBA program at all, but in the Philly market they are well represented. Case Western in Cleveland would be another example. UoFlorida or Miami would probably place well in Florida.

I would say that if you don’t go to a T20-30 program you shouldn’t leave work for school. Do it at night and part time. Also, look for strong regional schools, similar to what I mentioned above. There are a lot of nice sized cities in the US and most have core universities. Think Pitt in Pittsburgh, BC/BU in Boston, Marquette (sp?) in Milwaukee.

A good way to figure out where the school place people is look at the employment statstics. Usually the jobs are local, and they are not recruited for the same positions as the top tier b-school graduates.
