Where do you add about special circumstances?

My parents have been divorced for seven years, and I have not seen my father in those seven years. I have a brother who is ten years younger than me. My dad doesn't help out at all (obviously) and my family is making about 20,000 a year. My mom has always worked two, sometimes three, jobs leaving me to take care of my younger brother and the household.

I would really like adcoms to recognize my circumstance, but I don't know if it will reflect poorly on me or my family (considering I have $0 to really put me through college and I'm applying to an expensive college out of state). Do I add this? and if so, where do I add it in the common app? I all ready attatched a document on my additional information detailing my various awards, so I'm at a loss as to where to put this.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I really appreciate your hard work guys and shana tovah!

If it were a little earlier, I would recommend you to do Questbridge CollegeMatch, which is exactly for students like you. But now… write an essay about the stres, taking care of siblings, the family, the income. Or you can do it about something else and maybe have your GC talk about this in his/her letter of recommendation… It’s okay - colleges won’t look down on you because you’re disadvantaged (usually). What schools are you considering?
