Where does independent research go on the UC Application?

Hi,
The summer after my junior year I worked as an unpaid research assistant at a UC biosciences lab. Would I put this experience under Extracurricular Activity (“These could include hobbies, clubs, sports or anything else you haven’t had the chance to tell us about”) or Volunteering / Community service (“These are activities you’ve donated time and effort to without getting paid”)?
