I have a 3.2 gpa and a 28 act, asian/white, looking for oos schools (live in Texas). have decent amount of work experience and EC’s. Open minded, looking for a fun liberal school. Would like a stretch school on my list and a safety :)

So far ive applied to:
-CU boulder
-U of Oregon

Interested to hear about other schools that mind suit me well!

Stretch: University of Florida (yes it is harder to get into than many people realize)
Stretch: Georgetown University
Safety: University of Delaware
Safety: Oklahoma University

thanks you both!

bumppppppp

What can your family pay? For a school to be a safety it must be affordable.

finance is not an issue right now thankfully

Not sure how you feel about small schools. Oregon is very liberal and fun. Reach - Lewis and Clark (LAC). Possible safety - Portland State.

IMO Oklahoma is a match, not a safety (your GPA is low for them). Delaware is the same. Look at the Common Data Set for each school, section C. It shows what they use in admission and what weight each attribute gets.

i have never really thought about small schools (graduating high school class of 1300 people), but i will for sure look into lewis and clark!

thanks!

Maybe Oregon State?

If you’re considering L&C, also look into University of Puget Sound. From my experiences, they give better merit than Lewis and Clark. It also has about 2500 students, so it’s a bit bigger than L&C.

You might also like University of Denver. Very liberal, and probably a match/safety if you’re full pay.

If you’re looking at safety state flagships, also consider University of Montana. It’s in a nice college town, and fairly liberal. On the Western Schools for the 3.0-3.3 thread, a parent mentioned her son, who had stats similar to yours, got merit aid from the school.

Western Washington University is probably also a safety. Many students who couldn’t quite get into U Washington go there and love it. It’s very liberal, and Bellingham is supposedly an awesome college town.

Here are some other matches/safeties that are in or near cool cities or college towns and are generally considered fairly liberal (even though most colleges are)
The Evergreen State University (one of the most liberal schools out there)
Gonzaga University
University of Massachusetts - Amherst
American University
University of Vermont
Appalachian State University
College of Charleston
University of Portland (not nearly as religious as other Catholic schools)
Seattle University
Marquette (?)
University of San Francisco (probably the most liberal Catholic school out there)

High Matches/ Reaches
Macalaster
University of Minnesota- Twin Cities
University of Washington
Colorado College
Occidental College
University of Wisconsin - Madison
Whitman College
Brandeis University
Boston University (may be match)
Fordham

Do you have any location preferences? Any idea about your major?

wow whenhen thank you so much! for region preference, i would prefer the west coast but am interested in boston u!

i have been told about evergreen and u of puget sound from my ACT tutor and they seem to be very interesting so i will have to check them out!

thanks again for the good amount of schools to think about!

UNC-Chapel Hill?

UNC chapel hill would be so nice, seems like a little too far of a reach though for me :(
