Where Else Brandeis Students Applied

Admitted students from Brandeis’s Class of 2020 are sharing where else they applied and I thought some of you might find it interesting. It’s all anecdotal and many are dependent on geography, but I think it could be useful anyways. I’ll sort it from most apps to least.

This information is from 19 admitted students. Small sample, I know.

I believe the Fiske book includes some typical overlapping schools.

The two from WPI is a little surprising…

I also applied to WPI but I’m quite surprised not to see Tufts University on there, I applied there though

@rhyiel 3 people of the 19 applied to Tufts

Oh yikes I didn’t notice at first glance but it makes sense!

BU, Clark, Holy Cross, Northeastern, Richmond, Wheaton

WPI doesn’t surprise me. Two schools in the Boston area with solid STEM cred. Very different environments, but the same kid interested in specific majors might well consider both.

My son is a freshman at Brandeis. In addition to Brandeis, he applied to Boston University, Northeastern, WPI, Wesleyan, Hampshire, UMass Amherst, and UMass Lowell. He was accepted at all of them.

Why didn’t he attend Wesleyan?

@Deaston - A lot of things went into the decision. First of all, he really only applied to Wesleyan because my husband and I went there. He liked it well enough when we visited, but it didn’t grab him. He wanted to be closer to Boston. In the end, it came down to a gut feeling that he belonged at Brandeis. He has strong interest (and may I say talent  ) in very different areas - math, computer science, music, & theatre - so I think Wesleyan, Hampshire, and Brandeis were all good choices for him. In the end, he did overnight visits to his top choices during his April vacation and came back 100% certain that Brandeis was for him. He’s having a wonderful freshman year - academically, artistically, and socially. I should also note that we didn’t push for him to choose Wesleyan despite its being our alma mater. We are not eligible for need based aid, and Wesleyan was the only school on the list that doesn’t offer any merit aid, so Brandeis ended up being much less expensive for us.

Daughter who is also a Freshman at Brandeis - She applied to Elon, College of Wooster, Clark, plus more
