First off, congratulations to all of you who have been accepted! But, Yale is SCEA which means we can apply to other schools. So where are you applying RD? As of now, I'm applying to Princeton and Penn, but we'll see. Yale is my first choice by far so no matter what happens I'm 99.9% sure that I'll be going there in the fall.

can you... like... not.... thanks. It'll save the rest of the rejects/deferred some spaces

I decided to apply to other schools RD as I would like to be able to compare, so I'm not just "taking up spaces" to spite those who were rejected/deferred. I am very thankful and fortunate to have been accepted and not just applying to other schools for the sake of collecting acceptance letters.

I already applied to UF, UNC, Dartmouth, Williams, and Amherst.

I was going to finish up Brown, Northwestern, and Cornell, but decided not to.

I submitted to H P Dartmouth, WashU, Boston College, U of Richmond & American U
Was going to rescind my applications to all but the first three, but i'm rethinking that since i've paid application fees and (a lot of) postage.

Was going to finish Columbia, Amherst, Middlebury, UChicago, Georgetown, GWU, Brown and Penn but now i'm not gonna.

I just got a lot of stuff done before 12/15 because i was expecting a rejection or deferral from Yale :D

I have already submitted my Harvard app. I will not apply anywhere else and am not sure whether I'll rescind my Harvard application yet. I most likely will, since I will pick Yale no matter what (and I don't want to take another SAT II).

I already sent off all of my apps, and I'm not going to withdraw them (since I would be losing like 400 dollars).

Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, USC, UCLA, Berkeley.

But lemme say: I'm going to Yale!

i am thinking of applying to harvard and/or princeton, even though yale is probably my top choice, but i really dont wanna take a third sat 2.. i'm still unsure..

harvard and tufts (already submitted)

feels so good to only have to apply to 2 schools...

My son is planning to withdraw all those from schools that he would definitely not attend over Yale. He has too many classmates trying to get into some of those schools for him to feel right about keeping the applications open. He will keep a couple of others open while he does due diligence to make sure Yale is the best choice for the major he wants--but he may withdraw from those too before the final RD deadline if he's sure.
Here's a piece of philosophy: if you're sure you'd go to Yale over another school, why torture yourself if that school offers you a lot of merit aid to go there? If you'd go to Yale over Harvard or Princeton, why risk getting rejected by one of those schools? And no matter what you do, you're not getting those application fees back, and you can only go to one school.

Good to see that many people would choose Yale over Hahvahd.
I'd already submitted a bunch of applications just to be on the safe side, or I submitted the money already and will have to apply anyway for that to not go to waste.

Please don't trophy hunt, Yale SCEA'ers. If there are schools you know for sure you won't pick over Yale, withdraw your applications to those schools. I know you've already paid the application fees, but that's money you can’t recover either way. And yes, it's human nature to want to see where else you can get in. But your acceptance to a school you have no genuine interest in means a rejection or waitlist to someone else who really wants to go to that school, maybe someone you know. I’m not suggesting everyone withdraw every application. By all means keep a few alive if there are schools you might in the end prefer over Yale. But don’t collect scalps.

My parents would be furious if I withdrew a bunch of applications and threw away like 400 dollars. I'm withdrawing from the ones I haven't applied to yet, and I'm keeping the ones that give good merit aid. Because even with Yale fin aid, money can be a factor.

I also applied to Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth, Duke, Notre Dame, and UVA. I never really had a specific ranked order to my colleges and all my apps were sent in in October, so I figure I will wait it out until April to see... but I must say, Yale looks all the more appealing every minute!!! It's like, if you could read my mind, it would be saying Yale, Yale, Yale, Yale, I love Yale, Yale, Yale... :)

I already applied to the UC schools... cost 240 bucks...

I applied to Yale. I got into Yale. I will be going to Yale. No other applications whatsoever - great feeling!

My teachers are also pretty happy that they no longer have to write like 5 recs.

Yes I understand the "leave a space for someone who wants, and deserves it, more than you do," and proposed it to my parents. And they flipped out. My mom because i've taken her money, loads of it, to apply, and my dad because he paid so much for postage. Lucky my parents are only involved in the financial aspect of my college application.
Gee, I wonder why I couldn't have waited a few more days before submitting the common application. But I was harbouring no hope watsoever of being admitted by Yale.

But i've decided to withdraw from all but the needblind schools for internationals (H, P, Dartmouth and Middlebury). Figured the finaid package cannot get better than Yale's.

Hey nickel75, me too! Princeton and UPenn, already gone through entire process at Pitt and waiting for their Chancellor's Scholarship interview (aka all expenses). Hopefully come April I will be able to choose between these four and weigh financial aid along with how much I like each school.

Picked Princeton because it is just as likable as Yale (parent really wants me to anyway, and will undoubtedly try to convince me to attend there)

UPenn because I really like Philadelphia and it is also a very cool school.

Pitt because it was close and hopefully have a shot at Chanc. Sch.

All those application fees were insurance against not getting into Yale. Would your parents be disappointed if they bought life insurance for you and you failed to die?

Of course, I'm not talking about any school that you might possibly choose over Yale, for financial or any other reason. But leaving an application open to a school that you wouldn't attend under any circumstances now is a waste of your time, and the school's time and money.
