Where Fun Goes to Die?

I visited uchicago in the summer and I really loved it. I intend to apply but I have heard that the workload is ridiculously hard/large amount.... Another concern is that I have heard that there isn't much partying; I am a work hard play hard type, and I want to have a good time in college!

Parties suck at Chicago.

There may be some who try to convince you otherwise, but they either 1) haven’t been to Chicago parties, or 2) are boring people who don’t know what a good party is because they haven’t been to non-Chicago parties.

Sorry, kid.

Well if nobody else has anything to say about this subject… It’s looking like Vanderbilt for me!

A friend of mine recently went to a UChicago party. From his account, it absolutely sucked. Vanderbilt does indeed sound like a better fit for you. Duke is also a possibility.

I didn’t see this thread before (I never bother to check the class of 2013 forums) but yes, Chicago is not really a party school. There are fraternities and such, but it’s not central to the campus experience. The frat parties “suck” because people don’t put a lot of energy into them. And because brand new college freshmen are very awkward!!

Chicago is not a party school, but it’s social. The “parties” I go to would be better called “overstuffed social gatherings,” where a bunch of kids go to somebody’s apartment, hang out, listen to music, play beer pong, and chat. They’re perfect for me. I wouldn’t be caught dead at a frat party.

so what IS the workload the first year - what courses do most freshman have to take?

mom22girls-- good question. I’m going to move it out to the regular forum as its own thread so that it’s easier for others to see in the future!

Haha okay thanks, well I’m not like a party animal or anything… I was just worried (because of what I’ve heard) that all students do in their spare time is discuss politics and world of warcraft, which I like to do sometimes but I also like party. So I guess I’ll have to figure it out, if I get accepted…
