Where is everyone from?

Hi Ime from Zimbabwe, Africa. I got accepted to Ithaca College, but can't afford it, even with a 75 % scholarship, becase of the economic situation in my country. Make sure that the school you apply to can fully fund you if you need the asisstance or its the same as not being accepted.

Funny how Zidane had to head out with a red card. He is usually a very level-headed player. Sorry Marika. Only kiddng

hi i am from nepal, it seems there are very few nepalis posting here

tatenda,if u have relatives in the US u could take a loan from there...

Hi! I'm Anushree from Malaysia.

'Funny how Zidane had to head out with a red card. He is usually a very level-headed player. Sorry Marika. Only kiddng'

Nah d/w. Glad Italy won - he was out of order.

Malaysia! Yes, Malaysia!

germany here

Hi there,

Let me briefly introduce myself. I am located in the Netherlands and got my master's at UT Austin in 1991 (on several merit scholarships e.g. Fulbright scholarship). After that I served as the educational adviser at AMIDEAST in Tunisia.

I have recently started working as an independent educational consultant in the Netherlands. I serve prospective international students (and their parents/partners) who would like to pursue a degree in the US. Please visit my site www.ustudy.nl. As much as I would like to share my experiences with the application and admission process at each of the colleges and universities for my clients, I would also like to learn more from other people's experiences.
Thanks for taking the time to read my first posting.

Canada woooooooooooot
Chinese background woooooooooooooooooooooooot
How did you guys decide to study in the States?
I just wanted to do something challenging and make some friends while I'm at it.

I was born and grew up in the capital of Austria: Vienna. City of opera and music! Now I´m living in Barcelona and hope to find a chance to continue postgrad studies at an American University in the US. (Boston would be a dream!)
:)))
Any comments??!
Best,
Elisabeth

OMG elisabeth I am SO jealous. VIENNA? You are SO lucky. I hope I'll have the chance to visit there someday. Barcelona has great priced fruits, right? My mom lives in Switzerland, and she goes shopping for grapes in Barcelona sometimes.:)

Which schools are you looking at?
Good luck!

Helen,
haha, your reply makes me laugh: I am jealous of your mother.. of course the living standard is much higher in Switzerland... the income in Barcelona is rather low, but yes, that is a reason for sticking mostly to a simple fruit-diet ;))
and at the moment it is rather hot here... this sun that seams to continue heating the air even at night time!

Research teams: it is my idea that there must be research teams of doc or post doc students in the field of political science/practical philosphy/international relations at one of the more specialized universities in this field. I have studied quite a lot the texts of a professor from John Hopkins University - insofar probably one of the institutions that be most relevant for me.
Boston or any of the well-established universities would be fine in every case.

Fact is that this is just my idea, I´ve no experience or knowledge at all how I should go about it, how I should mouve and start shaking things in order to find a research team that I could join. Would it be ok to write to some professors in the US directly? Or are there official programms or application processes I have to go through first?

One thing for sure is that from the Spanish university here it is extremely unlikely to find support to join a programm over there. It all really will depend on my own iniciate and good look to make the right connections.

Any helpful indications are extremely appreciated!
Thanks to all and many greetings,
Elisabeth

I wish I was in Europe with my mommy right now... I haven't seen her for a year:(dysfunctional family sucks.

I really have no idea about anything other than the process of applying to universities. :( I think you should check out some of the other threads on CC under titles such as internship/employment or transfer.

once again GOOD LUCK!

ohhh, thank you so much, Helen, for your encouragement!
I will try and try... basically I am set up with a job here but wages are rather low in this part of Europe and unless I had a scholarship it is hard to combine job and studies.

and something else: families are always difficult... if functional or not, the generational gap is simply there :)

Take care, thanks a lot and see you here in Europe very soon!
Elisabeth

I don't think I'll get to go to Europe in the next two years due to my hectic schedule (unless my mom decides to get married again then I'll have a legitimate reason to visit:D)

But if I successfully make it to the NYU or something, I'll see you in BOSTON.

ooh. croatia. how is it there. im goin nexx week?
