It's been almost 24 hours since Princeton math professor Elon Lindenstrauss was awarded a Fields Medal, the rough equivalent of a Nobel Prize in mathematics (and more precisely the math equivalent of the Clark Medal in economics). It's a huge honor, and an additional feather in Princeton's cap. (It has other Fields Medalists in its math department as well; I couldn't find exactly how many.) What's also cool is that all four of this year's medalists (the medal is only awarded every four years) have been members of the Institute for Advanced Study at some point during the past five years, two of them last year. So last year three of the four top young mathematicians in the world were on the Princeton campus. That's hard to beat!

Thanks, JHS. I just posted, but I appreciate the reminder!
