Where should I apply?

Hey guys, for the most part, I have no idea where I want to apply. I'm a junior and am aiming for top 25. I do know I'll be applying to my state schools (UVA and W&M) if that helps. My school was ranked very highly (top 2) for the years that I've been there.

Here's my info:

UW GPA: 3.81
W GPA: 4.22
SAT: 770M, 760R, 730W (10/12) 2260 in total
PSAT: 80M, 73R, 80W 233 in total
Subject Tests: Math 2 - 790, Biology - 780
Rank: School doesn't rank
AP's: 5's on Bio and Enviro, 4's on Macro and Micro. Taking 5-6 this year, aiming for 4-5 on all.

EC's:
Model UN (team ranked in top 25 in nation) - Secretariat (Top five out of 250 people in club), 9-11
Public Forum Debate (ranked 3rd in DC Metro Area), 9-11
Speech (1 TOC Bid, Recruiting Coordinator), 10-11
American Teenagers for Progress (Founder and President, helped bring Obama to school)
Wrote a book
Interned Summer 2012 in the Bahamas at the Princess Margaret Hospital doing clinical research on dengue fever
Interned Summer 2011 for venture capitalist firm called Kairos Society doing research and strategy

I'm a pretty good writer and my teachers who are writing my recs seem to like me a lot.

Thanks in advance, guys!

What do you want in a college? It would be helpful if you could identify the following (plus anything else that you think we should know).

 • Desired size
 • Desired location
 • Intended major
 • Do you need financial aid? If yes do you also plan to try and get merit aid?

I’m probably looking at an urban or suburban college, without much regard to size. I’d like to go down the pre-med track and don’t really need financial aid, but would like merit aid.

Thanks!

Colleges in Boston might be a good option…you would need to be more specific then that. Like do you want to go to a name school? state school? do you want to go to a school where the undergraduates and graduates are on the same campus? Do you think you like liberal arts? a place where there is good transportation? greek life? ETC. i would look at college board and look into programs that you are interested in for college.

We already know that OP is looking for top 25. Most top 25 schools don’t offer merit aid and are need-based only, how far from the top 25 ranking are you willing to go? Also some idea of preferred geographic location would be helpful (even if it is just east or west coast).

Well, assuming you truly are a fan of Boston, Boston College (aid is unlikely) and Boston University (a better chance) are good options. Wake Forest may also be a good option and it’s fairly close to you as well.
