Hi!
Just wanted to get other opinions on where I should apply to school. Before I get into the actual numbers of it, I would like to say a few things though. My freshman year went very well. I took very challenging course for a freshman, and finished the year with a 3.8 GPA. Sophomore year got interesting. I had major problems at home, got a job with 30+ hours a week, and continued to volunteer. I also took way too many classes. It was really bad timing. I finished with a bad GPA that year, which brought my cumulative down to 3.49. I took my first AP class that year. Junior year I nailed as my life returned to mostly normal. I took less classes each day, while still keeping a very rigorous schedule. I cut down on my hours at work, but also started a business that I spend a lot of time working on. I brought my GPA up to a 3.66.
3.66 GPA
30 ACT
2 Years Varsity Volleyball
2 Years Varsity Tennis (After this year…)
2 Years Varsity Baseball (After this year…)
Work Experience (3 Years)
Volunteering (4 Years)
Student Government (4 Years)
Co-Founded a food startup
I believe I will have great letters of recommendation.
Thanks!
What can your parents pay/year? Home State? Intended major? Size of school? Location preferences?
How rigorous of a HS schedule, #AP’s etc…? AP test scores? Breakdown of ACT?
Sorry for the lack of information! I wasn’t to sure what to include.
My parents are willing to pay for the difference between what I can afford and the cost. I live in Wisconsin, but I am really fine with going to school anywhere. I have looked at UW and U of M so far, but maybe those are above me. I plan on majoring in Finance. I have taken AP Stats (3), AP Calc (4), and this coming year I am taking a math class at a local university as I have completed all of my school’s math classes. I will also be taking AP English and AP Chemistry this year. When it comes to strength of schedule, my counselor tells me that I have had a very rigorous schedule over all, especially sophomore year. I would have liked to take more AP classes, but I will have taken most of those offered by my school by when I graduate. (We are about 700 kids so we do not have that wide of a selection when it comes to AP classes. However, we are regarded as one of the top school districts in the state.) As for the ACT, I scored a 30 on math, 32 on reading, 29 on english, and a 29 on science. I am going to retake in a few days on September 10th and see if I can do a little better.
If it matters I am also a NHS member and have played cello for 8 years.
Let me know if you need anymore information from me.
Thank You!
@Gumbymom
Sorry… I don’t know if I am supposed to tag people on this site! No clue how this works but I will catch on eventually! I just want to make sure you get my response.
Once again thank you for your input!
What are you planning to study/major in? Any ideas about what you wanna do in the future? Also, as a new member myself, I recommend you try out the SuperMatch on CC to get an idea
@SmallSouris I am planning on majoring in finance.
I’m not really familiar with finance, but maybe you could try Boston University or Carnegie-Melon? I visited University of Pittsburgh and they seemed to have a reputable Business school, so maybe that might be an option? Seriously though, you should try out the SuperMatch
@SmallSouris I have. It is matching me with schools like UW, UofM and University of Michigan Ann Arbor, all which I would be thrilled to attend. I just wanted to get a little more advice from real people… I will make sure to look into those schools you listed. Ironically a SuperMatch result was Boston University I believe!
Thanks
