Where should I go For Fashion Design??

I am currently considering Otis, one of the Art Institutes and SCAD. I just want more information on these schools and other schools that are good for a Fashion Degree...
thank

I'll be extremely honest. I attended Otis. It's an amazing school for what they teach. The only down fall, and I think the biggest down fall of Otis, is location. If you want an amazing education for what will prepare you to become a fashion designer go to Otis. If you have aspirations to actually work in the high end fashion market, go to a school in NY, parsons or fit. The kids at parsons and fit have it so lucky because they're right dab of where you need to be if you're serious about the fashion industry.

Otis will provide you as good as an education if not better, but it will never expose you to the opportunities the NY schools can in terms of the industry simply because they are in NY.

If you can go to a school in NY, go with them first. Then Otis, then SCAD, then art institutes

FIT and Parsons are the two best choices. I go to FIT now and love it. The professors are amazing and you will learn so much each semester. The same teachers teach at both FIT and Parsons, so both schools have the advantage of an amazing staff who all have industry experience.
The only difference between the two schools is that Parsons concentrates more on art while FIT concentrates more on construction. Neither school is perfect. At FIT you will begin your major the moment you enter the school while at Parsons you will have a foundation year of general art.
But I recommend Parsons and FIT for fashion design, being in NYC is a HUGE advantage. FIT is actually IN the fashion district!

Issac what his name talked on radio today, go to good school, either parsons or FIT, do internships opotunities offered plenty, his asociate designer started as an intern then climb up ladder proven herself every step on the way.
Sorry FIT is not cheap if you are outa state, but don't need SAT, still a good deal.

Compared to other schools, even if you are out of state, FIT is very cheap. My two years at FIT cost me the same as one year at Parsons.

FIT and Parsons are always good choices, BUT you might want to consider University of Cincinnati! Why?

They not only have very strong programs in both Fashion Design and Fashion Merchandising ,but they have 1.5 years of paid coops that is integrated in the curriculum. I can't overstate the value of this. This gives you real world experience, real world connections and much higher chances of a job.

If you haven't heard of Cincinnati, it is VERY well regarded among designers. Trust me on this: take a look at the school and look at their curriculum.

Stay in NY if you can.

SCAD has an interesting connection with Andr

NC State College of Design has a fashion/textile programs and alltogether only 120 students get accepted into the College of Design...it's very hard to get into but a terrific school. Minnesota College of Art and Design has fashion design as well.

Kent State is nice.
Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandising

Go to the school(s) that has direct lines (jobs/internships) into the fashion industry in NYC. Trust me. You have to research this for each school.

FIT or Parsons!

FIT is significantly cheaper than Parsons though. They are both the top two fashion design schools in the country, and they regularly compete with eachother. I just visited FIT last week actually.

Parsons is much more widely known, for whatever reason. However, FIT has produced designers such as Michael Kors & Calvin Klein. :)

The best schools for fashion design are Parsons School of Design and the Fashion Institute of Technology, both in NY. Kent State University, in Ohio, also has a very strong program. But the most elite programs are FIT and Parsons - and they're also in the heart of the fashion world, NYC, which can be an advantage if you want to work in NYC when you graduate.

On the west coast, the strongest program is at Otis School of Art and Design, in Los Angeles. It's really very good.

No matter where you go to school, you must do an internship in the design industry if you hope to get a job when you graduate. Do not skip the internship. It's really that important.
