Ranking fashion majors?

Hi

Could anyone tell me about available rankings for degrees in fashion marketing/design/management? I need to know which one out of the following three schools in New York would be the best bet for an international student:

Berkeley College of New York City
Fashion Institute of Technology
Laboratory Institute of Merchandising

Does anyone have experience with one or more of these schools?

Thanks a lot.

According to my good friend, who is a prot

The best schools for fashion design in New York (and maybe anywhere) are FIT and Parsons. FIT tends to be more hands-on and practical. Parsons more design oriented.

There's a fair amount of competition between the two, but they have both graduated most of the big names in the world of fashion and they both have excellent access to fashion industry internships and jobs. Many of their instructors are also involved in fashion, retailing or brand marketing.

I'm not familar with the other two schools so I can't comment, but if you're considering them I would ask them about their career placement.

Thanks! What about Los Angeles? Is this a place known for fashion design education as well?

FIDM is in Los Angeles, but it's not an accredited college, if that matters to you. It's more like a trade school, I guess. Then there's also Otis....

Another I recommend in New York is LIM. I have friends who go there and love it.

In addition to the suggestions given here, I will note that there has been plenty of discussion on fashion design schools on the Art Schools board here on CC, so you could possibly post there also, or simply read past discussions.

My mom regularly hires people from FIT for her company in NYC, she says Parsons is a much smaller school than FIT, but it has a good reputation as well.

Parsons is best
FIT next

Yea, FIT is realllllllllllllllllllllllllllllly cheap though...so it's really good and you barely have to pay anything.

FIT is part of the State U of NY system (SUNY). So it really is pretty cheap. OOS tuition for SUNY schools is around $11,000. The also have dorms for those who come from outside the metro NY area. FIT is located in the "garment district" of NY, ( 7th Ave and 28th Street), so you couldn't ask for a much better location in NYC.

I know someone who attends FIT, lives in NJ, and is very happy with her experience. She is currently an intern for Oscar de la Renta, which i think he's good, dont know though.

Here's another one to consider: http://www.chs.fsu.edu/tcs/

Does anyone know anything about the AAS majors at FIT? I'm thinking of applying as a Textile Development and Marketing major but I'm not sure how many jobs there are in the textile industry.

Thank you!

According to my good friend, who is a prot

University of Delaware has a Fashion Merchandising major, with the option of a 1-year exchange at FIT. Other options: Marist in Poughkeepsie, NY and Philadelphia University in suburban Philly.

also consider Pratt in Brooklyn.

As far as the whole FIT vs. Parsons ranking, both schools are excellent. I go to FIT now as a design major and love it.
The same teachers teach at both FIT and Parsons, so you'll have the same intructors at both schools. Parsons focuses more on the art aspects of design while FIT is more focused on contruction. My teachers even told me they think that Parsons has too much art and FIT has too much construction, so both schools have their advantages and disadvatages.
Both FIT and Parsons will provide you with job oppertunities upon graduation and no one will look down on you for going to Parsons instead of FIT or visa versa...both of these schools are eually respectable for a fashion design major.
FIT is a lot cheaper, but it is a SUNY school. Also, Parsons will give you a foundation year...you apply to the school not the major. At FIT you apply to your major and start freshman year. So if you get into both schools and are really ready to start your major, then FIT will be your best bet, but if you want a year of general art education, then Parsons is a better choice.
I highly reccomend applying to BOTH schools and checking them both out. They're both amazing.
