High school student from Ohio at a very competitive school. Grades are not all there, with a 3.4/5.4 cumulative GPA. Take some hard classes- Geometry Honors, Spanish II Honors, Biology Honors, Chemistry Honors, Algebra II Honors, AP Modern Euro, Spanish III Honors, Ap Gov't, Honors Speech Communication, AP US Hist, English 11 Honors. Planning on taking AP Calc BC, Pol. Theory Honors, AP English, Physics Honors and Spanish V senior year. SAT scores were V-700, M-750, W-760. Taking SAT II's in June probably, English and Math 1/2, hoping to score around 700. Only AP taken so far is Euro, which I got a 5 on but I hear doesnt matter. Soccer and baseball player, work part time jobs, volunteer at a camp for the mentally challenged, president for a political club, member of the chess club and spanish club. Captain of soccer team jr year and will be senior year. Will be captain of baseball team senior year. challenges within my life/things that set me apart include an injured leg at the end of my freshman year and living in two foreign countries. Now the reason why I am posting...I am looking for a college that will give at least some name recognition and has good liberal arts. I want the college to have good athletics and popular intramural sports. I want to go south, but it is not imperative. I am as of now considering looking at these schools: Furman, Elon,Wake, C Charleston, U South Carolina, Richmond, UNC (only looking at it because i will be there I doubt i will even apply), Colorado-Boulder(family). This is a very cliche and difficult to answer question, but where should I look? What colleges should I add to that list, which ones should I take off? I figure Wake is a stretch school and UNC is a hail mary, but what about the others? any personal stories?

hey there richard...im skipping caz i am exhausted!
advice on UNC...its 60% girls so that should help you out a bit..although it would be prob the hardest to get into caz it is a state school

ps nice job on your SATs :)

i meant 3.4/3.5* for GPA. haha thanks syd.

What about Duke? If you have a 3.4 out of 3.5, that is very good, as are your SAT scores and your ecs. I dont see why Duke would be too much of a reach for you. It has great sports and name recognition.

I think he meant somewhere between 3.4 and 3.5 GPA out of 4, although I could be mistaken. Is that weighted or unweighted?

ah, yeah i suppose i misread, though if that is unweighted then he could still be in business. He has a great amount of honors/ap classes. Of course, Duke would be more of a high-reach now, but thats the way it is for most of their applicants. Its worth a shot.

lol i wouldnt be putting that my grades arent alll there if i had a 3.4 out of 3.5 The weighting system at our school is very peculiar in comparison to what i hear about most colleg weighting systems so i am going to ask for my transcript and calculate my exact gpa, unweighted and then weighted different ways. i am pretty sure that gpa is weighted but ill get back to you

William and Mary? Your GPA is a bit low, but your SATs are not.

yea i think my main problem will be GPA so that is why I was asking you all what schools i should be looking at.

just a thing to keep im mind finky...
a 3.5 at SHS is waaay different than a 3.5 at any other high school
alot of colleges boost ours up more bc our school is just that damn competitive and small
