Just recently I've begun to actually put some thought into where I might go to college, and I realized that I don't have an idea of what schools I have good chances at getting in at. I'm a junior in Michigan, and I've always imagined I would go to school in the midwest/east coast area. I've never even given the thought of going to school anywhere else, should I? Also, I've realized that there's no way I can get into HYP but am I within "reach" of other less-prestigious elite schools (thinking about UChicago, UMich, possibly others). I'm taking the Feb ACT and am expecting/hoping to get a 31 or higher. Also, I've only take 2 AP/Honors courses but my class rank is 5/350.

What major are you going for?
Large or small school?
Large or small town?

I don’t really know what major I’m going for, maybe something with Physics. My school is normal-sized I guess. About 1200 kids and from a small town.

what size school are you looking to go to?
what size of town do you want to be in while in college?

I don’t really care about the school size, but I would prefer a medium-sized school. I’m okay with going to a really big school like U of M but I just don’t favor it. Also I would like to go to a college in or in the immediate vicinity of a large city but I can live with going to college in the middle of a corn field.

What can your family afford?

From what you have said may I recomend going to a big school with a large variety of majors as you sound unsure of what exactly you want at this time. Go for UMich if you are in state and discover what you want to do. Once you know if you want to transfer at that time go for it.

Well I’m still only a junior. It’s not like I have to make my decision tomorrow. I just want some input on top schools that I have a chance at getting into.

Kinda putting the cart before the horse by looking for top schools then deciding what you want to do.
