Where should I think about going?

I'm wondering if I should go to the best school I can get into and possibly flounder or go to a lesser school?

My SATs are 640M 690V 670W, 31 ACT, uw 3.5 w 3.9

I might get into NYU or Carnegie-Mellon ED (I know it's a reach)

or I could consider BU, GWU, Case-Western, or University of Miami

I could also consider Indiana and OSU.

I'm not into math and am thinking about Marketing or Organizational Behavior.

I would appreciate any comments.

Also - Cornell's ILR - Industrial and Labor Relations

well Carnegie ED isnt too big of a reach w/ you ACT score...your relatively low unweighted gpa may hurt you... getting into their business program might be quite difficult and if you really dont like math, would you really wanna go to a purely science/math school like Carnegie and Case...obviously they have other areas that are excellent also but the connotation with both schools is engineering/ math science......

ummm BU, GWU and U of Miami are all good fits..... watch out for costs tho...b/c BU and GW dont give that much money out....

im goin to BU in the fall and i got VERY lucky with my package.... OSU instate is very solid..with their business school being very highly thought of...Indiana is the same..with even better recruitment there..... BU, GWU, and Case seem like really good fits...NYU may b a reach for Stern..you'd b very competitive for CAS however

get into the Best school you can...dont b afraid of "floundering"..... accept challanges and try and better yourself...in your apps next year, show them y you stand out... anyhow...good luck with your search...none of those schools are huge reaches, you have a shot at them all

Marketing is a business specialty removed from finance. And some of the colleges you mention don't do marketing well at all (Carnegie Mellon). NYU doesn't even technically offer a Marketing degree. It offers a Marketing Science degree which is known for focusing on the quantitative aspects of marketing and ignoring the qualitative aspects.

Something to bear in mind: Most entry level marketing positions are with consumer products companies. And most consumer products companies are in the midwest. IE Procter and Gamble is based in Cincinnati, General Mills is based in Minneapolis etc.

If you are serious about marketing, out of the colleges you mentioned the best is IU followed by OSU.

Look at Marshall at USC

Just realized that US News forces people to log in to get that marketing specialty list. I'll just repost the top twenty here for convenience. Don't take this list as the be all and end all. But it is helpful for narrowing things down.

Interesting. And if I'm not 100% sure I want Marketing but may want organizational behavior or something then where should I think about? And why are NYU and Carnegie-mellon on that list of top 20?

Like I said, don't take USNews as the be all and end all. And that specific marketing list ends at #21. See the BusinessWeek rankings for a second opinion:

http://bwnt.businessweek.com/bschools/undergraduate/06rankings/

Here are some marketing job postings too:

If when you say "organizational behavior" you mean Human Resources then you're about the same as general Management major. But you could mean operations/production management or something else by that, not sure.

fairfield, lehigh, villanova, providence are all match/safeties to check out

you might get a full scholarship to IU so maybe you should really think about kelly. Its not to tought to get in and your ACT score puts you in their scholarship range.

I second the University of Miami. It has a great balance of academics and social life. The business program is quite strong and recruiting is solid.

The weather is 100X better than Boston and Washington D.C. and it is a smaller school than GW and BU.

Rankings wise it is ahead of Bu by 5 spots and only behind GW by 3.

I just found out about Cornell's industrial and labor relations department. Do you think I could possibly get in there ED?
