I'm a senior and I'm thinking that my reach schools are maybe too reach-y and I'm wondering if anything would be in between let's say Wash U, Cornell, NYU-Stern, Carnegie-Mellon, as extreme reaches at one end, and George Washington, BU, Indiana, Case Western, University of Miami as match-safety schools at the other end.

I'm willing to apply ED but I want the school to take me directly into business.

Washington University in St. Louis 6
Cornell University (NY) 22
Carnegie Mellon University (PA) 32
New York University 35
George Washington University (DC) 42
Case Western Reserve Univ. (OH) 44
University of Miami (FL) 49
Boston University 53
Indiana University—Bloomington * 166

I don't see thsi gap you're talking about between extreme reaches and matches. GW, Case, Miami, and BU are not easy to get into.

Interesting. I guess people I talk to like guidance counselors think I have very little chance at the 1st 4 on the list but I think my scores, etc. are quite a bit above the average at say GW. I think their average ACT score was either 27 or 29 and mine is 31-32. Of course I know scores aren't everything...

Also, NYU Stern is probably much more selective than the 35 would indicate.

If your ACT is over 29 and you are top 10th percentile in your school you would get a full ride to Indiana University, which is annually top 10 in undergraduate business. The facilities and professors are top notch, careers center is amazing, and you will develop key networks. The only negative is that IU is labeled as a party school and easy to get into,it is ranked surprisingly in 70th on US NEWS. But, since your going into business, consider visiting the campus, it was listed several years ago as the most beautiful campus in USA. Also consider NYU Stern and Notre Dame-Mendoza.

My school doesn't rank and I'm not sure what GPA they would give me - maybe about a 3.9 weighted. Would that give me a full ride even out of state?

No they won't. The 29 ACT and the top 10% are just requirements for direct admission into the business school. The poster is referring to the Kelley Scholarship, which has different criteria. You need to have a 30 ACT and be in the top 10% just to fill out the scholarship app, and then you will have around a 5% chance of getting the scholarship. There were over 250 direct admits to the business school this year (about 200 of them had a 30+ ACT and top 10% ranking), and only 10 students get the full ride.

I go to IU. The business school is awesome, they have a real unique curriculum and a lot of people really like it. Great oppurtunities, it's a top 10 business school. Nice facilities, the best faculty in the nation. Classes aren't easy though, some students don't belong here, and there are lots of people.

I go to Indiana UniversityBloomington. The professors are top notch and the classes not as easy as people say they are. As far as majoring in business, this is the place to go. I would recommend you visit IU and experience the beautiful campus and then reconsider about BU(a college that is known for grade deflation).

One that hasn't been mentioned is UIUC which could also be a good fit on your list. It has a top notch B-school and also check out Boston college-Carroll.

I thought it was 3.5/1270 for direct admission to business (IUB)...

Oh wait, it is. haha

Direct Freshman Admission
Get your Kelley career rolling the minute you step on campus by taking part in our Direct Admit program for exceptional students. If you meet the following criteria, you will automatically be offered direct admission to Kelley before entering IU:

Already admitted to IU Bloomington and indicated business as your intended major
SAT composite score of 1270 or ACT composite score of 29
Top 10 percent of high school class or 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale

Although you will be admitted to the Kelley School, you will retain IU’s “exploratory” option and you can change your major once you come to campus.

What's unique about Indiana's program? What is uiuc? Is that Illinois in Chicago? Do they admit directly into business? Seniorsc - thanks but California's a little far away.

UIUC- Illinois Urbana-Champaign, the flagship campus.

Indiana has the I-Core program you will take part in, you can read about it below, but your junior/senior year you group up in teams where businesses give IU work to do and you develop a written plan/proposal for them.

Another key thing about IU is the Investment Banking Workshop, which receives many accolades, the only bad thing is that it is so hard to get into.
