Where the 2015 Tony Nominees Went to College: The Actors and Actresses

Playbill has published a list of where this year’s Tony Nominees (announced this morning), attended college (this list is just those on the actor/actress categories)

A variety of schools are represented.

As an aside, my daughter’s friend, Brandon Uranowitz, is nominated in Best Featured Actor in a Musical category for An American in Paris. They were in NYU/Tisch together, and were leads in a MainStage musical there together. The reason I am mentioning this, however, is that Brandon studied in the acting studios at Tisch and I know I have mentioned on this forum many times that there are students with MT backgrounds/talents who study in the Acting studios at Tisch. He is one of many who do that.

Also want to point out that Jeanine Tesori is the only female composer to receive multiple Tony nominations. As the parent of a female who also composes musicals, Jeanine is a ray of hope, as well as someone my daughter knows personally and looks up to. (I realize she is not in the actor categories on the link I shared!)

Fun Home and An American in Paris lead the pack for total nominations this season.

Congrats to all the nominees this year!

Here is a list of all the nominations for this year’s Tony Awards:

It just continues to show you there is no one path. You have those never going to school all the way up to “top tier” schools and everything in between.

Agreed!!!

Though, of note is that all but two of the adult actors did attend post-secondary schools.

While there are a variety of degree programs represented (BA, BFA, BM, 2-year conservatory), I would say that a majority of them are either well known universities or well known BFA/BM degree programs. That is NOT always the case, but in this group, seems to be.

A list of where the Directors and Creators of this year’s list of Tony Nominees attended college:

One thing I find interesting is how many British schools (and British performers) I see on this list. I wonder if the opposite would show up for British awards (doubt it)

And here are the schools of the nominees in the Design categories:
