Where to dorm at University of Hawaii (Manoa)?

I'm doing a semester away at UHM in the fall of next year and wondering where I should live. I have to live on campus and I'm considered a transfer student so I have to live in either Johnson Hall, Frear Hall, Hale Anuenue, Hale Laulima, Hale Kahawai, Gateway House, Hale Noelani, and Hale Wainani. I originally had my heart set on a tower but since I'm a transfer student I guess I don't get that option.

I've done a little research and I've found that Frear is the newest/nicest and might be the obvious choice. Since I'm only going for a semester and I know no one who's going to be there, I want live in the dorm with the best reputation for being social - I can put up with a couple of months in a crappy dorm if it means I have a greater likelihood of meeting up with new people.

Anyone have suggestions/insights onto these dorms? I'd also like to know if any of them are freshman dorms, I'm assuming that they're all multi-year but I don't know for sure.

Many many years ago, I stayed at Gateway. It was fun. I cannot speak for the other dorms but the thing I liked about Gateway was it was close to my classes. ( I spent many hours in music building, Kennedy Theater, Hamilton Library, and Moore Hall) I don’t want to stay in the dorm where you have to walk across the football stadium and huge parking lot to get to classes. Safety was a consideration, too. I hope you enjoy UH!!
