I just graduated UWO with a HSP in Neuroscience and want to get a second degree in computer science. Here are my options:
University of Toronto:
-only allows 5 transfer credits
-3 years
-$10980 per year
-UTM, then could transfer to main
-September start
University of Waterloo:
-allows 50% transfer credits
-down to potentially 2 years
-$11800 per year
-January start
York University:
-10 transfer credits
-potentially 2 years (or even less? case by case basis)
-$8772 per year
-September start
Sheridan College:
-DIPLOMA computer programmer
-16 month program
-potential transfer credits, so possibly less
-8.8k total
-September start
This doesn’t include awards and bursaries which I can see and apply for only AFTER I apply for the program. There’s also the coop at Waterloo and U of T. I want to go into programming, MAYBE mix this into programming for scientific research, or go into video game programming(!!!). I’m wondering what other people’s opinions are on these schools, degree vs diploma, coop, money, and TIME. Although U of T is one of the more prestigious schools, it’ll take an extra year and a lot more money to finish. On the opposite end of the spectrum, I’ll finish at Sheridan very quickly, but only have a diploma. I know many high end jobs such as gameplay programmers ask for a bachelor in computer science (or equivalent). Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
