Does anyone know where to get help on common app essays if my school doesn’t have a reliable guidance counselor/college admissions person?
Your English teacher is always an option that should be able to help. It’s not uncommon for people to get feedback here too (with a post asking for readers, and then PMing the essay to volunteers - don’t just post the essay).
Thanks Lagging!
I will try my English teacher. I’m just worried that she’s a bit older and been out of the admissions process for a while. It can’t hurt to try though.
She can still help with grammar, flow, voice, transitions, etc. Quality of writing is a important component of the essay. If you’re worried about it being cliche/inappropriate or some other admissions-specific concern then posters here are usually pretty direct about that as well.
There are also other options/programs that generally cost money where you can have someone advise you on your essay/apps. Personally, I think they’re not really worth it but I’m sure some people would disagree and maybe have some specific recommendations for those.
Ok, so I talked to my English teacher. She said she’d help me, but I don’t know when she’ll get back to me :((
I looked up some of those online editing services, and I found a couple that looked cool
- Essay Edge (essayedge.com) They seem WAY too expensive though Saw some threads about them saying they were helpful/others saying they weren't
- BuggleEdits (buggleedits.com) They are like $10 for edits, so super affordable All students at good universities too Couldn't find much research about them on CC or anywhere else though :/
Any thoughts on these two?
