Where to go? Fordham, Northeastern, Penn, UMD, american, USC, Richmond, elon, JMU

Where do I belong?

I am currently a senior in high school in New Jersey and I am very interested in majoring in business (although I am not sure which area)..leaning towards applied finance/accounting with a possible concentration in entrepreneurship.

Anyone have insight on the business programs at any of these schools? Also, If you attended these schools can you describe the overall atmosphere of the school and if it did a good job in preparing you for life outside college?

P/S..Feel free to include what drew you personally to the school!

-Fordham
-Northeastern
-Penn state (University Park)
-University of Maryland (College Park)
-American University
-University of South Carolina
-University of Richmond
-James Madison University
-Tulane
-Elon

BTW: My Current stats are 1870 sitting Sat..610-CR, 650-Math, 610-W
(1260/1600)
3.72/4 gpa (weighted)

Will your parents pay for wherever you go?

if money is an issue, then I don’t think your list will work.

However, if your parents will pay for wherever you go, then great. Your list is fine.

Just for the sake of it, we don’t refer to Penn State - College Park as ‘Penn’.

Huh? They didn’t. They didn’t even say “College Park” which is wrong, it is University Park and it is in State College PA. Unreal. Don’t correct people when you don’t know what you are talking about.

I believe the correction that mathematicism was taking aim at was within the title of thread where the OP listed the school just as Penn.

Then where does the College Park come from? To criticize someone for a “typo” type of mistake in the title when they clearly got it right in the post is just silly.

Wow:

City, rural, suburban…

Large, medium, small…

North, south

rah, rah…not so much…

Can we get a better idea of what you are looking for in a school so we can help? You are all over the place with your list in terms of preferences…

-Fordhami in nyc
-Northeastern in boston i didnt like it for some reason it has a coop program so you’ll have plenty of internships before you graduate
-Penn state (University Park)-will never go to its out in the middle of bumble****
-University of Maryland (College Park)-i heard its good
-American University-I like
-University of South Carolina-to south for me
-University of Richmond-I wouldn’t want to live in virgina
-James Madison University-its goood
-Tulane -don’t know much but lots of jews
-Elon - i have a friend whos going there she likes it

I know my list is all over the place, I felt comfortable with those schools after visiting. Honestly the two most important things for me are A. Getting a good education and B. Having the ability through networking/internships…to either start my own business or land a good job.

Of course I want the college experience as well. Any college that is too rigorous may strip me of my creativity. I don’t want to go to a diploma factory and end up with no “edge”.

Also the Penn in the actual title is only labled Penn because I had a limit to the charachters I could include. Otherwise i would of put Penn State and included Tulane in the question.

-Also money will not be an issue.

Tulane has gotten a lot of recognition for their entrepreneurship programs, and their finance major is considered one of the best in the country. It also fits your other criteria; it is New Orleans after all. If you get in (and your stats are borderline but certainly you have a shot) I would give it a serious look.

Use PSU lol.

-Fordham - NYC is the best city on Earth
-Northeastern - Boston is the world epicenter of colleges
-Penn state (University Park)
-University of Maryland (College Park) - I’d go here over American if you want to be near DC but don’t need to be right in it
-American University - very liberal and politically active, DC is amazing
-University of South Carolina - great international school of business
-University of Richmond - best undergrad business school on your list, also a great little city
-James Madison University
-Tulane
-Elon - people who go here love it

lets bump,

NYC is the best city in the world? Hardly.
Northeastern has almost no campus from what I have been told and is about the 10th best college in Massechusetts. Personally, I don’t understand the recent appeal of this commuter college.
Richmond is very good but is a reach for you.
Tulane is also a reach for you but is a good choice as fallenchemist says (who cares if there are a lot of jewish students? I don’t see the relevance).

If money is not an issue, you should seriously consider Fordham. I disagree that NYC is the greatest city (rude, arrogant, shallow and narcissistic people crammed together in a cold, concrete cage with rats, bed bugs and carbon monoxide) but it is a good place for internships and recruiting - especially if business is your interest.

Call us after you get in and let us know then. You are on the bubble for several of those schools. Fordham’s avg SAT is now 1280 and rising…expected to be 1300 this year. Their avg gpa is 3.5 unweighted. And rising.

Elon is the same.
Tulane is tough to get into now.
Richmond is uber selective too.

You have the best chance at PennState, Maryland and USC and of those three USC is the most likely admit for you.

You have good stats, but in this environment they are not slam dunk stellar.

Just got my first letter a few days ago. Was deferred back into the regular pool by Tulane. I am not shocked for I know Tulane is probably the hardest school [in terms of selectivity] on my list.

My friend with similar stats was also deferred.

My senior grades are straight A’s in several AP classes so that may aid in the new admissions decision when they look at the regular pool of applicants.

Hoping for some good results these next few days.
I think I may apply Early Action II to Richmond since I am falling in love with the school and in hope that it will boost my chances.

If you guys have any other colleges in mind that I would (a) most likely get into and (b) have a good business program please suggest!!

“Fordham’s avg SAT is now 1280 and rising…expected to be 1300 this year. Their avg gpa is 3.5 unweighted. And rising.”

Fordham is a good school but let’s not get carried away. The average SAT is around 1200. Students and alumnae at almost every school claim that the scores are about to go up in the immediate future. Rarely does it come to fruition.

[Class Profile](http://www.fordham.edu/admissions/undergraduate_admiss/applying/class_profile_28473.asp)

Well this is the class of 2014 for Fordham Student Profile.

I hate when they group the middle 50 percent. Because of course the 75th percent could indeed be 2020 and the 25th percent be 1810 but I have no idea where 1870 would land (upward or downward of the completely average student (50%) )

Rising Chemist…you dont have a clue what you are talking about. I know for a FACT their avg SAT score for incoming freshmen in August of THIS year was in FACT 1280. For the last 6 years they have had application increases that have doubled, and the quality of applications have also risen. They in FACT anticipate more than 30,000 this year and another bump in SAT scores of 10-20 points. Fordham has also risen in the USNWR rankings from number 84 to number 56 in the highly selective National University rankings and in no small part by the dramatic increase in applications and quality of students who attend there. Its not a “claim” or “wishful thinking”, its just the simple facts.

So please take your misinformation (or perhaps something worse) elsewhere.

My source? Fordham admissions and their posted Class Profile.
