I'm torn between NYU and UofM...i want to study economics, business with minor in math. I definitely want to study abroad during my junior year. Which one's better school??

I would go with NYU because Michigan is huge and less intimate than NYU. But Michigan does have a great business school.

inteatime,

I faced the same decision (along w/ other schools) about 10 yrs ago. Maybe I can help. I chose Michigan. I loved my college experience there, and to this day, I consider it one of the best decisions I've ever made. If you get a chance, try to visit Ann Arbor or talk to some students who attend Michigan. I think you will find that the overwhelming majority will characterize their experiences as extremely positive ones.

You mentioned studying abroad. I believe the Michigan study abroad program is called OIP. They offer a lot of study abroad opportunities. I studied abroad during one of my summers. Everything went really well. All my credits transferred over, and went directly to my concentration requirements.

What I loved most about Michigan is the balance that it provides. Your professors are the leading scholars in their fields and there's a palpable energy on campus from the community of 40,000 UG/graduate students. Grilling burgers and having beers w/ friends on a crisp, autumn morning before heading to the Big House for the game -- ahhh, the memories. :)

I'm just wondering....

How did UMich notify you of your application status?

I had to resend some missing documents so I'm not sure if it's because of that I'm getting delayed or if it's because they send their reject letters on the last days....

Do they notify by website, email or letter?

haha there is nothing intimate about NYU...

thanks guys for your advices.
Lincoln! I did visit Ann Arbor...i liked the college town (not as much as NYC but i didn't actually visit the NYU campus) I'm leaning toward UMich right now unless i hear something real drastic

Both are great options for business, especially if you decide to pursue a career in Finance. However, I know at UMich you have to wait for your soph year to apply to the business school. Were you admitted to Stern at NYU? If not, I'd probably go to UMich, as they have better career prospects than NYU overall. NYU-Stern definitely has inroads to careers in NYC though... tough choice, can't go wrong.

New York University

These are two very different college experiences. NYU is in and of NYC. UMich has a more traditional campus experience. Which you choose depends on your preference of a college experinece. Those individuals who want a school with a lot of traditional spirit, football games or other sports games, choose UMich. For those who want to experience the city and all its glory and fun, choose NYU. My S's girlfriend is also a Stern student and she said that she had had enough of the school spirit stuff at her HS. She wanted a different kind of experience.

kcirsch - There are aspects of Stern that can feel intimate. Stern undergraduate is only a little over 2000. The newer administrators started a program called Cohorts which divides all the students into groups of approx. 30 - 40 with an alum. They do all kinds of fun things in the city. The Stern scholars program offers all kinds of benefits - my S has gotten tickets to openings, the Knicks, trips to FL, etc. In some ways they coddle the stern scholars except that the stern scholars have to maintain a 3.67 average. Isn't that number weird ?!!
