where to go with awkward 1900SAT/28ACT

Overbrook- Were you kidding listing URochester as a possible option and a second tier school? You obviously have no clue what you are talking about… Any school top 40 USnews is going to be difficult to get into and very rigorous academically.
Let me guess, you are one of those who dismiss the US news rankings entirely?

OP- You could even try Wake Forest, I believe they are test-optional…

Nihility: I didn’t list Rochester as a possible option or a second tier school. I corrected Haystack by saying that neither lafeyette nor Rochester were second tier. Read a little more closely before attacking someone next time.

my parents make ~160, so they’ll be able to cover 30 a year,

Since you say that you have a brother in school, do you mean 30k total for both of you? or $30k for you and $30k for your bro? Have you asked your parents exactly how much they spend per year on YOU alone?

If your parents can spend $60k per year for 2 in college with an income of 160k, I suspect that they have a good amount of savings/college fund.

What is your brother’s FAFSA EFC?

*my parents make ~160, so they’ll be able to cover 30 a year, but financial aid will be nice. ive been accepted to rutgers, and have applied to tcnj (safeties). i’ll major in biochem, biology, neuroscience, or psych.

i also want a relativity small-medium sized school.
i’ve already applied to nova EA, penn ED (rejected but expected), rutgers, tcnj, nyu, and bc. i still have to apply to hopkins and haverford (bit of a reach). i’m considering adding lafayette. *

You’ll likely get into nova, and a few others. NYU isn’t going to help you out with aid.

My brother is currently on a full academic/athletic ride at a $40,000 school, about to roll in his masters. However, he did not have a full ride for his entire four years. My parents will probably contribute toward his masters in order to increase my chances for aid. They have very hearty savings and strong investments. My dad did some estimate EFC stuff and it came to around 20-30k.
I’ve heard reports of NYU’s being rather reserved with aid, so I agree.
However, Nova doesn’t have the best either (so I’ve heard).

*My parents will probably contribute toward his masters in order to increase my chances for aid. *

Don’t count on that. Many schools do not count grad student’s costs. Schools expect parents to pay for undergrad, not grad school.

Since your Bro is about to start his masters, you may not get any special consideration for that or not much.

With your GPA, I’d look into some SAT optional schools. [SAT/ACT Optional 4-Year Universities | FairTest](ACT/SAT Optional List - Fairtest)
And schools like GW, Lafayette, Tulane, Franklin & Marshall, might work…

There are many LACs in PA which might work: Lafayette, Bucknell, Dickinson, Gettysburg, Muhlenberg. Also GW, American, U. Richmond, Elon.

You’re already accepted at Rutgers, so you can concentrate on match and reach schools and not worry about safeties.

just to update everybody, i now have a 30 on my ACT, which should make the guessing process a little easier.
