Where to put attended workshops on Common App?

Hey guys,

I am currently filling out my Common App. I was wondering where someone would put their attended workshops and science meetings/symposiums.

I’ve been to a contest type coding event in Seattle, attended a University’s introductory research 3-day workshop, and have been to the AGU fall meeting in San Francisco (the biggest conference for earth and space scientists globally). I am also going to present my research poster at our local university’s symposium this August (excited!!).

I was thinking about just omitting the SF meeting I mentioned, as I only really talked to other scientists, looked at posters, and attended talks. But I also feel as if that event represented my interest in research. But again, I know that Columbia University has a section where they ask something like “What events have you been to that really impacted your life?”…

What are your thoughts, guys? thanks.

Sure! Those would be fine to list as ECs on the common app. I would probably list them all in one line if you can, because it sounds like you have a lot of other cool stuff to put in the other fields.

List the SF meeting- it’s related to your field of interest and totally valid to list.

Thanks! I was wondering if I should have put it under additional information or activities, but listing it as one of the ECs sounds better fitting
