Priceline (I know...I'm soooo cheap) lists these hotels:
Holiday Inn Select, Residence Inn Oakland, Wyndham Garden, Courtyard Shadyside. Any one better than the other? Any within walking distance?

If I stayed outside the city (free parking!) is there visitor parking on campus?

No contest- Holiday Inn Select-It is literally right across the street from the college, belive me its location will make things so much more convienent on your visit- also don't forget to ask for the Pitt discount! Have fun on your visit!

Go to the marriot residence inn, best place in the world, and a lot cheaper than holiday inn select. You get free breakfast+dinner (although no restaurent food) for like $100. Best deal in the nation.

P.S. I don't work there. Its a short walk to campus (5-10 mins, pretty scenic, in shady side)

They didn't charge for parking when we went, you just have to get your pass validated since your sharing parking with the adjacent upmc. With the Pitt discount in runs about 109 a night their- not to bad.

We'll probably try to do Priceline. The only 3 star hotel in the University zone is the Holiday Inn. If we can't get that the Wyndham regularly goes for under $50, although the reviews are not as good (but for $50...).

But I will check out the U Pitt price at Holiday Inn.

Thanks for the tip, rbm23! I called the hotel w/ my reservation number, gave them the Pitt discount code from the PittStart website. Hotel cost is now $109 w/ free parking! The best deal we've had from Pitt so far!

When we stayed at Holiday Inn, our parking was due to expire at 3. My daughter's registration session wasn't till 3:45 ( I think she had the last appointment time!), so we knew we wouldn't be out of there before 5. HI happily extended our free parking time till 6, so we were happy campers.

We normally stay at the Wyndham, since it is walking distance from my S's apt. Holiday Inn is nice, but a little out of the way for us. The Residence Inn is up a hill (but most of Pittsburgh is an hill) from campus and a longer walk than the others

The Hampton Inn at University Center is a bit of a walk. It is about one block away from the Wyndham. However, it is inexpensive, VERY CLEAN and ACCOMODATING. They serve a continental free breakfast each morning and always serve free coffee and tea,not fancy but adequate. The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle that drives guests around town and around the Pitt campus. The parking fee is minimal.
