@DunninLA: While I see your point and agree that my GPA may be too low for many of the prestigious schools I am applying to, I am doubtful that it is mandatory to write an essay explaining how I have a 2210 SAT score and a ~3.69 GPA.

In all honesty, I don’t think its uncommon for someone to have that kind of numbers at a competitive high school. Of course, I’m not saying that I’ll easily get into any school I want.

I recognize that there’s a long way to go, but I disagree that I need to come up with some sort of reason. You don’t have to be “lazy, have ADHD, nonconformist, cheated on the SAT(?), living on the street(-_-)” to have a 3.7/4.0 GPA and a 2210 SAT score. The SAT is a standardized nationwide test with grade 7-8 mathematics. A person who is good at taking those kind of tests does not necessarily equate to someone who is good at multiple college level classes in high school.

Again, I’m not downplaying my numbers. I recognize my weaknesses but I am just putting out my personal opinion.

Thanks for taking your time to write out responses to my thread! Look forward to having a continued discussion! : )

ballpointpen - you are taking DunninLa’s post WAY too seriously. First, I think he had you mixed up with another poster. Second, if he didn’t then he is just wrong. Good lord, your UW GPA is great, as are your SAT scores. BTW though, there have been numerous studies that show SAT scores do correlate fairly well with performance in college. Admissions offices don’t stick with them because it is fun, they do it because it does provide a standardized baseline. You are right that getting an average score (~500 on each section) only shows minimal mastery of basic material. However, getting in the 700’s is another matter in determining learning potential as compared to lower scorers. Anyway…

Don’t buy into the kind of off base criticism in LA’s post. That whole rant about ADHD, lazy, etc. was in bad taste and just weird. There are no weaknesses in your numbers, that would be a very inappropriate description. They are not perfect and other students have higher scores, but they are still fantastic. I think it was the head of admissions at Harvard (might have been another top school) that said they consider anything above 2200 to be pretty much all the same. Stay positive.

ballpoint – fallenchemist is correct, my apology… I wrote the last paragraph on the wrong post! I had two posts open at the same time. There was another 1500+ SAT guy with a 3.0 average that I was reading at the same time as yours … my apology, but I can’t edit now.

Just disregard the last paragraph.

LOL, I knew that had to be what happened, I think I know the other post you are talking about. That situation is…well anyway, carry on!

@DunninLA: LOL its alright haha : )
