How difficult would you say the grading is? Math is not really my strongest subject :). I am taking Precalculus at a local university and will most likely receive an A, but I would not say that I am math-inclined.

The grading is lenient. I know for them an A is about 80 something, and the lectures and following exercises will really solidify your understanding (even if you aren’t particularly math-inclined). Also, the class is self-paced so you can work at your own pace.

Wow that sounds perfect!! I will have to look into that!!! Thank you!! Hopefully I can get my school to approve that :)

Oh, also, colleges won’t frown upon this, correct? I’m only asking because our school DOES offer an AP Calc Class but I couldn’t fit it into my schedule because it’s the same period as AP Bio.

Don’t worry, colleges will definitely not frown on taking an important class online because of scheduling issues in your school. It might actually help you. :)

There are lots of options.

Online high schools like [Virtual High School Welcomes You! Welcome-Home](http://www.govhs.org/Pages/Welcome-Home)

Plus many other online high schools…

Perhaps the most challenging calc class for high school students is offered by Art of Problem Solving: [Calculus Course](http://www.artofproblemsolving.com/School/courseinfo.php?course_id=calculus)

A program that is similar to EPGY is CTY: [CTYOnline - AP Calculus AB](http://cty.jhu.edu/ctyonline/math/courses/calculus-ab.html)

@OP: Please note that you will most likely not want to take the AoPS Calc class, since you say that you are “not mathematically inclined”. The AoPS Calc class is generally aimed toward the top 1% (or less, I think) of math students; that is, the AIME/USAMO-level people.

Do any of you have experiences with proposing to take an online math course? My school is very small and does not have anything in the policy about taking online courses except for remediation (which are the school’s own classes). How should I approach this? Sorry I can use all the help I can get because my parents aren’t being very supportive about it and I don’t know who else to ask.

Thank you everyone for all your help so far!!

Why not take AP Calc instead of AP Bio? Couldn’t you take APES or AP Chem in place of Bio for an AP science?

^ I’m taking AP Chemistry my senior year and that’s the only other AP science our school offers. I’m looking into maybe switching to AP Chemistry next year but I had wanted to try to qualify for USABO. Thanks for the help though :)

@Yellow Daisies - I’m also considering taking AP Calculus online next year and having a hard time finding which online course would be best. Glad I’m not the only one.

Yes you are def not the only one stay in touch, I’d like to know what you figure out. Hopefully we’ll both get AP Calc next year! But I am leaning towards taking Calculus and then doing supplemental work bc I think that the program has to be approved as part of the curriculum (which takes a year) so unless somebody has done it before you may have a difficult time getting it passes in time. But it may be diff at your school, good luck!!!

I am taking a Calculus course online this coming year (Multivariable though, not AB) and my school has already agreed to my plan and to fund it. What I found the school was looking for was a clear understanding on my part of the committment I was making (ie I planned to really work hard and finish the course) as well as explaining all the details of the course and giving them the website. In my case, I had the advantage that my school did not have a course to offer me, but I think you should have just as good a chance at approval. Just make sure to give your school as much information as possible about the course you choose and why want to take it and you should be fine. PM me if you have any other questions!

P.S. I’m in PA too! Where in the state are you?

See, my school has always offered regular Calc, AB,or BC (since BC is just AB plus a little more). My teacher recommended me for BC, but the school decided to do away with the class. They’ve also done away with regular Calc - forcing EVERYONE to take AB Calc. I think I’m capable of doing BC, have a strong desire to do so, and don’t quite want to be in a class full of people who don’t want to be there and would rather be doing regular Calc.

Soooo. sorry for the long story - still searching for the best option.

@ FBItomboy007…thanks for your help!! It’s nice to know that someone else accomplished it. I was supposed to have a meeting with the principle today but he wasn’t in. Oh, that’s cool :). I’m a couple hours north of Pittsburgh. Seems like most people on here are in the Philadelphia part of the state though.

@ kew…I think that our school is going to get rid of Calculus and just have AP Calculus in a few years too. Calc is just kind of a weird in-between class. Good luck!!!
