I will be a junior next year and need to start planning which AP classes to take. I haven't done any this year because i attend a british school. On that note, i cant say anything about the teachers of the ap classes since i don't attend the school (im switching schools).

I plan to major in finance and plan to take the following AP's:

-AP Macroeconomics
-AP Microeconomics
-AP Calculus AB (should mention i wont be able take BC junior year since its the hardest math class and no i cant take classes at a community college as i dont live in the US)

-AP Psychology Vs AP Chemistry

I dont know which to take. Im doing a two year british course and the sciences i am studying are Biology and Chemistry. I really dont like biology so i've already ruled out AP Biology. However, i enjoy chemistry and get A's/A* in my class tests/exams. But doing AP Chemistry when it isnt necessary for my career path seems like a waste of a time as im actually more interested in doing AP psychology. In this case i shouldn't hesitate to take psychology, but im worried that if i psychology over chem that top uni's (upenn-wharton, georgetown, cornell etc) will think im choosing the easier ap. Although, taking either ap will mean taking the 'most rigourous course load' available at the school, since the max ap's the school allows juniors to take is 3 - majority take 1-2 though.

Do you think taking ap psychology instead of chem will make me a less competitive student? And do you think my choice of ap's is good. I should mention that the classes i will be taking alongside these ap's will be english, physics, advanced studio art, us history, and intermediate arabic (school doesnt offer honors, just regular and ap)

I don’t think it matters very much to those schools whether you take AP Psych or AP Chem because you are majoring in finance. I also think that either AP could be easier or harder than the other depending on your point of view so colleges won’t think you’re taking the easy way out. It’s important to do what interests you so I would recommend taking AP Psych since you are interested. As long as you at least took regular Chemistry before, it should be ok.

First of all, though we as students deem some APs to be easier than others, to most admissions officers an AP is an AP. Follow your interests—that being said, I would suggest taking four years of sciences, as well as every other subject. Hope this helps!!!

Thanks for the advice. I’ll have taken two years of both chemistry and biology before junior year so i think i’ll be fine.

The school doesnt offer ap stats which is a bummer since it is important for business so i might self study it depending on whether the school will administer the exam for me or not.

I’ll have taken both biology AND chemistry in 9th/10th grade. I’m taking physics junior year and ap physics senior year. That’s good enough right because it covers 4 years of science?

Yes, that sounds good. It’s also good that you’re getting exposure to all 3 subjects (bio, chem, and physics), instead of only bio and chem, for example.
