I am a high school senior that is planning on taking a few more AP tests this year, but I am wondering if the credit for a few of them will go towards the credits needed to gradte. I plan on either majoring in BME or EE if I get accepted.

These are the AP courses that I am not sure about:
AP Psychology
AP Literature
AP Econ/Gov't
AP Statistics

You can only use 2 non-math/science APs, so if you already have 2, more won’t really help. AP stats doesn’t help at all. The only benefit to getting more humanity AP credits is that it’ll allow you more freedom to pick your 3 remaining humanity credits that you need to graduate. Most people, however, enjoy taking Trinity classes (I don’t), so it’s a moot point since they’ll have taken many humanity classes regardless.

To elaborate on what the above said…
Don’t bother with stats at all.
If you already have two good humanities scores, then don’t bother with any of the exams, as you won’t get any more credit.
If you only have one good humanities score, pick the exam you think is easiest, and if you have no qualifiying humanities scores, then pick the two easiest exams.

For example, if I go to Duke (prospective BME also!), I would probably take the BC, Physics C, and either US gov or english langauge exams, as I already have one history “5” from last year.

To add to above, 2 Humanities APs in the same subject or department will probably not be helpful. So if you’ve got AP Eng Comp then don’t take AP Eng Lit. Or if you’ve got AP US Hist, don’t take AP Euro Hist. Diversification is the name of the game.

Other than that, some APs that might not be as helpful are AP Stats, AP Human geography, etc. All of the other science and math ones are dead useful.

Last year I already took 4 AP tests(4’s on all the tests):
Calc BC
human geography
US history
English composition

Since i already have the us history and the composition, the only additional tests that would count towards credit at Duke would be taking the AP chem/bio test?

And Physics C. You can take more humanities if you’d like. It depends on what types of classes you want to take again at Duke. You need a social science so if you don’t have AP gov. you’ll have to take an SS class. Then you need 2 out of the following 3 categories: ALP (art, literature, and philosophy I think), Foreign Language, and I can’t remember the name for the last category but it includes history.

My US History test should count as a social science right? So I could have US History and English Composition as my two non math/science AP’s and then I should probably just focus on the science AP tests for this year?
