Which AP Scores should I send to Rutgers?

I'm going into School of Engineering (looking at Chemical Engineering at the moment) and I'm trying to decide which AP Scores I should send to Rutgers.

I got a 5 on these AP tests:

AP U.S. History
AP Calculus AB
AP Statistics
AP Chemistry

I'm planning on taking the AP credit for U.S. History, but what about the other 3? Should I take the credit to skip the class, or should I not take the credit and use the class as a GPA booster? I heard Calculus I is easy, but I heard the Chemistry department is not that good.

Thanks!

Use calc and chemistry. Don’t use stat though. Stat at rutgers is easy

Also, my sister goes to Rutgers, and she suggested not to take the AP credit for Chemistry since I will have to take Organic Chemistry freshman year. Is this true?

Take all the credits. Having extra credits coming into school helps tremendously with registering for classes because you register in order of credits previously earned. If you opt to use all your AP credits, you will have 17 credits before you even take a college class.

The US credit is a no brainer.

Take the Stat credit because you can still take some very easy stats classes if you want to or if you don’t, then you have 3 extra credits. Note that AP Stat fulfills the Statistics requirement for the Materials Science and Engineering major.

Take the AB credit. It is definitely a good idea to be ahead in the math sequence so that you can either take some classes earlier in your sophomore or junior years that you would normally not be able to, or if for some reason you withdraw from a math class then you don’t fall behind. Be prepared for Calc 2. It is notoriously difficult at Rutgers, but it is definitely manageable and you are going to have to take it at some point anyway if you want to be an engineer.

Take the Chem credit. While you would probably find the first semester very easy and the second semester definitely manageable, it is just nice not to have to deal with another two semesters of a class and a 1 credit lab. This will also make your freshman schedule less congested, which will help make the transition to college easier. You are not forced to take Orgo as a freshman if you do not want to, so you can just take a humanities class instead or just take fewer credits.

In general, people looking to not take the AP credit and then taking the classes as GPA boosters either end up underestimating the work load or not studying because they think they already know everything. Of course some people do get As in the classes, but personally I don’t think it’s worth the risk. Having guaranteed credits that enable you to register early, being ahead in the curriculum, and having some flexibility in your schedule are better than the chance to have a few extra As in some classes.

Thanks for the help guys. I actually found out that Rutgers already received all of my AP scores for free. I think I’ll just use all of the credits and decrease my workload freshman year.

Take them all, college is for learning. Plus intro courses are generally unpleasant, everythings more enjoyable the higher up you get. Plus engineering is a good number of credits, every ap class you cash in is a semester with one less course of work to worry about
