Current students - which local bank do you use? Which bank has the most convenient ATMs?

Here's what dartmouth.edu has to offer - banks within walking distance.

And at the Student Connections page (http://www.dartmouth.edu/~frstyear/students/index.html) there are a number of similar sites -- cell phone providers, etc.

C,

Daughter banks at Fleet (which is now Bank of America) is never at a loss for an ATM or branch when she is at home or If needed cash in a pinch, I could get to one quickly. I don't think that they pay any fees because she has her paychecks directly deposited. If of the banks have branches in your neck of the woods it would be a good thing becaise D willnot have to worry about having multiple accounts.

We aslo have a joint account where I can transfer money from mine to hers but she then has to pay to use the ATM.

You hit on what I'm trying to do - find a bank that crosses regions. I don't think I'm going to be successful, but I'm trying! We may end up funding most of her spending money upfront, and having her take a crash course in budgeting.

With on-line banking being a way of life, look into setting up a joint account with D at your local bank where you acan place money in her account at an instant (money fro tickets home, etc). SHe would just have to pay the dollar for ATM.

When you get to Hanover, I would still suggest having her set up an account locally in Hanover so if she works she can have someplace to deposit her checks or route her direct deposit.

You also have the option of putting money into Dartmouth Dash (don't put a lot of $ into this account because they basically use it for doing laundry) or a Bbone account which most of the local vendors (EBAs, the Coop, the bookstore etc.) use. It is the equivalent of a debit card.

You can also refill that account on line and they get the money in about 10 minutes.

BTW, a Northface store is coming to Hanover.

Are you serious, a Northface store is coming?!?! That's so exciting! When?? Did the plans for a J. Crew store officially fall through, because last I heard, they were negotiating.

one thign to be careful of though is banking linking, cause i was going to get an account at the bank of america, cause its' the only bank that is out here too, but the problem with that is that the banks are not linked..meaning they don't actually communicate with each other easily, and it is jsut the same as having two different banks....

on the other hand...a northface store would rock

Hopefully I can bump this thread!

Which bank has the ATM in the student center?

All of the banks are off campus "in town" . You know the moment you walk past the hanover inn that you are in town, so the banks are 1 to 2 blocks.
