Which book is the best?

Hey guys. I recently checked my ACT score from the June 9th test and was mad with the score I got. I received a 26 which is what I got the time before. I got a 28 in english, 30 in math, 25 in science, and a 20 in reading! I did HORRIBLE in reading and I have no idea why. I dont read too much so that might be a problem. But anyways I used the kaplan act book and took some practice test before and scored between a 26-29. My main questions are:

Which books do you find the most helpful in increasing scores and helping understand answers and mistakes?

Are there any tips you could give me for any of the tests thats would help increase my scores?

I used the method in reading where you read the passage and underline and make notes but that seemed to not work very well. Im one of those slow readers that comprehend ever little detail which leaves me less times for the questions. And when I try to read fast I end up skimming really quickly and dont even get any information out of it so I just waste more time skimming over and over.

I didnt do as well as I wanted to in math because I want to get a 30 overall and a 30 in math was my highest. I took calculus last year and I was told it makes the ACT harder because you make everything more complex which is why I missed may of the pre-algebra questions and no trig questions.

Science I really have no idea what to do because its not really science. Its more like reading scientific stuff.

English for me improved 4 points which is kinda good but I probably just make dumb mistakes and second guessed myself too much and changed my answers.

So if you guys have any suggestions, tips, anything feel free to share them with me!

It’s a lime green book. I can’t remember the name but it’s something like increase your reading score in 3 minutes a day.

Check out Jeandevaches’ Guide to the ACT (Just search the forum for it). It has many simple and helpful tips to help you increase your score. Also check out SparkNotes because I found the grammar review to be helpful and it gives an in-depth look into each of the reading passages and the questions associated with them.

I recommend using The Real ACT Guide (The Red Book) for its five official ACT practice tests. Also Google “ACT Practice Tests” on the forum and there will be links to practice tests in several different threads. The best way to increase your Reading score is to read a lot of ACT passages contained in the practice tests. Hopefully, the more you read the passages the better your reading speed will get and the better your comprehension will become. When you are finished taking the practice tests, review your answers and make sure you know why you answered certain questions wrong.

I also used Princeton Review’s Cracking the ACT and found it to be pretty helpful. Being successful on the ACT really comes down to doing practice tests: the ACT is very predictable, so the more you become familiar with the test, the better you will score.

Good luck on increasing your ACT score!
