I got this message today from the counselor of my school:

You should not be enrolled in Chemistry 1A since you already have credit for
this course with your Chem AP score. If you want to enroll in Chemistry this
quarter, you may enroll in the honors section - Chem H2A and H2LA. Your
other options are to take just the Chemistry lab this quarter - M2LA and
wait until winter to enroll in Chemistry 1B/1LB. You will need to be cleared
for M2LA, please call the office at 949.824.6507.

I was wondering how hard the honors chem class is, and if I would be better off taking Chem 1A anyway to refresh my memory and carry on or just take the lab class or what? Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Depends…What is your major? and what are your career goals?
That and it might not be an option, better talk with your counselor, they might not give you credit if you just continue with 1A.

If your goal is medical school, be careful. A few schools(like UCLA) will not accept AP credit. Not sure about other health profession schools.

The people I knew that were in chem H2A were chem majors but I don’t know.

Just my 2cents. Definitely discuss your options with your counselor.

If you’re not willing to take H2A, do not take H2A. Try to sweet talk your counselor into 1A…

With that said, the honors series is great, really loved the teachers. What you can do is take H2A/H2LA first quarter then switch into 1B/1LB. I thought of the three H2A-B-C, A was the easiest of the three. You’ll be ahead of the people in 1B and it’ll be easy for you (my friend did this and had to repeat some labs he did). Or you could take on the challenge and continue… The other two H2B and H2C classes aren’t rocket science although we did calculate some stuff with N2O4… lol.

the honors chem series was the best series of classes i’ve taken at uci so far.

you’re in for a real treat when you have professor shaka.

That said, i thought the honors series was easy. It’s not graded on a curve like chem 1a-c.
