Lately I've been living vicariously through the internet, while spending most of my free time on collegeboard.org and **************. Fantasizing about colleges and lives that one could have if I were to go to specific colleges, all varying depending on the state, and whether the atmosphere is urban or rural, cold weather hot weather, etc. etc. etc.

Anyways the question is if for me: someone who would want to go into the social sciences (sociology/political sciences) and visual/liberal arts fields, is a lesbian, and won't be able to gain much financial aid/scholarships (DREAMact).

Which of these cities would be better? I've sort of been looking at NYC (love the northern brooklyn/lower manhattan atmosphere), Pittsburgh, Portland, San Francisco (and I've found a few colleges in the Berkeley area and surrounding San Francisco), Detroit, Chicago, or Boston.

I love the ruggedness yet "hipsterish" feeling that Northern Brooklyn has, and that's pretty much my only experiece from the places I mentioned. I've also always wanted to live near or in San Francisco, so if I could find a college for me there that'd be great too. Are there any colleges/universities in the areas I mentioned that would have good programs for the majors I mentioned, and would also be very gay friendly?

I would recommend looking into the following schools because of their locations and/or their ranking for sociology:
NYU
Illinois-chicago (UIC)
Wisconsin-Madison
Penn state
Pitt
Boston U
Boston college
Temple
Loyola-Chicago

From living in places or knowing people that live bear them, I can tell you that Chicago, NYC, and san Francisco are all pretty LGBT friendly.

Boston is an awesome college town! It has everything you want/need and has a higher population of young people due to the many colleges/universities in it or near it (BU, Northeastern, Mass College of Art, Fisher, Berklee, Emerson, Emmanuel, Simmons, Lesley, Suffolk, Wheelock, Wentworth, UMass Boston, Harvard, MIT, Tufts etc. etc.)

I would prefer Boston, then S.F. (better weather!), then NY. Pitt and Portland are OK but can’t compare overall with the top 3. (Never been to Chicago so I don’t want to rank it)
