Which college for NYS Psych major?

I am a New York State resident, which means that I would get reduced tuition for the College of Human Ecology and the college of Ag and Life Sciences.

My preferred major would be Psychology (offered in the College of Arts and Sciences), but I could get a major in Human Development (or something similar) in Human Ecology.

So my questions are, can I go on to be successful in the Psychology field with a Human Development degree? Or is it worth the extra money to try for Arts and Sciences? Or will the financial aid work out so that they're both the same price anyway?

I would appreciate any input. Thanks!

most careers in psychology require a masters or higher…

i am absolutely certain you could get into a psych master’s program via the human ecology route provided you gain the required pre-requisites for grad school…

although if your parents make under 100k (even better if its under 60k) you could end up getting the same financial aid in CAS as you would HE.

you can also be admitted into HE…get most of your basics done and then transfer to CAS after a year or two…

Thanks, campuscsi!

My parents make about 160k, but because my older sister is in college, and my younger sister and I are in private school with a steep tuition. So in this case, would it make more sense to try for human ecology?

Yes, it would.

i think you’d be happy with the HD major. i was a psych major before i transferred and i love HD even more. it covers a lot more but a lot of it is still psych.
