those percentages are way off. UCR is 48% and ucsb is 15%, the others i dont care and have not checked

definitely colleges 9 and 10...

how hard is it to transfer colleges? i got into college 9 and i've heard that it's bland compared to the other colleges.

you can apply to transfer colleges any quarter, but it's better to jsut stick with one because that's where your friends will be. don't try to transfer until you give it a shot.

i'm an incoming freshmen so i don't have any friends yet at college... i just don't want to be stuck with more asians because i come from an area that is heavily asian infested and i want to experience a broader scope of people in college

i think every UC except santa barbara and santa cruz has more asians than whites

Kobe, this may be the data you are looking for. It looks like Oakes and Crown Colleges are the winners, followed by College Nine, Ten and Eight!

Many of the high schools are in very affluent and/or liberal areas (San Francisco, Berkeley, Palo Alto, Marin County).

I'm asian.

I'm so glad that some asians are planning to attend UCSC.
I'm an asian female...from Los Angeles. :/ and I don't see that many asians in my area planning to attend...so it will be great to know some of you.

I want to dorm in 9 or 10, but I heard Crown is pretty diverse. It's gonna be so hard to get into 9/10...since so many people have them as their top choices

Hi, I visited UCSC on the 13th and I'm also conflicted about which college to sign up for...right now, I'm drawn towards Crown from what I hear about it. I was wondering how other people think about each individual college? I might post a thread asking more specifics...

I'm asian and considering UCSC. The colleges do not have to affiliate with your major; the themes of the colleges are just of your own interest, and a lot of them are like current world issues. I'll be honest: if I decide to go here, I would choose 9 because it's new, clean, and have big rooms. My other choices, in order, would be 8, 10, oakes, and I don't know after that. Some bathrooms were coed and disgusting-looking. When I visited on the 13th, I saw asians all around the campus rather than in dorms, but I don't know.

What are the sterotypes for each college?

being asian rules. i'm going to ucsb. did you know that at my school you can live on a floor full of other asians if you request it or something? they also have substance free floors, gay pride floors, performing arts floors, etc. weird!

^^^^^^^^^^ stereotypes for each UC:
[my opinions, at least]

UCB- really really smart people with opinions
UCLA- really really smart asians/jocks with sports scholarships
UCSD- nerds with big backpacks
UCSB- university of casual sex and beer
UCD- norcal=hella tight
UCSC- lets smoke weed and walk around in the woods
UCI- asian invasion!
UCR- i can't breathe the air
UCM- are we in the middle of kansas?

Lol how amusing. Sorry I don't know the answer to the OP's question, but I found this thread amusing nonetheless. :]

Hey xdarlinnikki, what schools did you choose from to decide UCSB. I'm still debating between UCSC and UCSB and I would like to know what made you pick sb. Let me know, thanks!

^^^^^^^^^^^^
for me it has been ucsb all along. i toured the campus and fell in love. what other college is literally on the beach??

i also applied to - asu, sdsu, csulb, cal poly slo, uci, and ucd

santa cruz just isn't for me. i toured and i didn't particularly enjoy the atmosphere. one has to take a bus to get around campus!! also, it is stereotyped as being a drug school, and i'm just not into that. also, ppl i know that go there don't really like it that much, whereas everyone i've talked to that goes to ucsb loves it!

good luck in making your decision, and maybe ill see you at santa barbara ! :]

I'm a current freshman at UCSC so I think I'm qualified to answer your question:

The stereotypes of each college, in my eyes, is as follows:

Oakes: Known as the most ethnically diverse college. Geographically this college is farthest away from many of the main buildings on campus, which makes it a somewhat dull college because not a lot of people pass through it.

Crown- The "nerdy" college. Many Asians, but there are many Whites as well. Crown has the highest concentration of "gamers" as opposed to the other colleges. This year a Halo 3 tourney was hosted at crown.

College 9/10 - Because these colleges are fairly new (established in 2001/2002), these colleges have yet to develop a unique personality. However, I will say that the majority of the Asian population are in these two colleges (as well as Crown).

Kresge - Kresge has earned the title of being the chief "hippie" college (look up Kresge college on Wikipedia, the sign just screams "hippie"). Recently however, due to the influx of more freshman on campus, Kresge's personality has shifted a little. Kresge is ALL apartments (which makes it easier to have parties there), and that fact combined with a majority of freshman eager to meet new people has made Kresge notorious for being a party college. Overall, it has a hippie/party college feel to it.

Porter - Notorious for containing the "hard drug" scene (although this notion is superfluous because you can find ANY drug in ANY college). People in this college tend to be very expressive, that is to say, people in this college seem to be more "real." This college is known as the artsy college, which may explain the nature of its denizens.

College 8 - This college is known as the "mini-UCSB." There are many "preppy" people here. In essence, it is the antithesis of Porter.

Cowell- Similar to College 8.

Merill/Stevenson - I hardly go to these colleges, and thus I cannot formulate an accurate stereotype.

Few things to note:

-Stoners are in EVERY college.
-Alcohol and other drugs are in EVERY college.
-There are parties in EVERY college.

Each college has its own "core course," which essentially is an introductory English course that all freshman are required to take. The topics vary from college to college, and thus attracts a different portion of students. The Crown core course deals with technology, which clearly explains why it has garnered the "nerdy" stereotype.

I hope this helps.
