Which college should I choose as a high school senior looking to be a computer science major

Hello I am a high school senior and I was accepted to many schools but the schools I am most interested in are Lehman college, stony brook university, Adelphi university, and Manhattan college. I think that I am probably going to be admitted into the maccaulay honors program at Lehman and I got almost full rides to Adelphi and Manhattan college and I’m still waiting on my scholarship decision from stony brook but I just wanted to know which college is the best choice for a potential computer science major thank you for your time.

Manhattan is the best school you’ve listed, although I’m not sure about CS.

Is money an issue?

Re-post after you get all your acceptance and know what choices are affordable. As of now I’d say Manhattan College or Stony Brook would be my choices.

Yea money is kinda an issue and i will post back when I get my full scholarship offers but I feel as if I have maccaulay because I feel like my interview went very well

You may want to check whether you get direct admission to the CS major at each school. If not, check how difficult it will be to enter the CS major.

@jgcompsci Does the size of the school and classes matter at all? I don’t know too much about all the colleges you listed, but I do know that Adelphi and Stony Brook are very different. Stony Brook is much larger in size and I’m pretty sure you would have to take a bus to classes. Adelphi, on the other hand, is medium sized. I go to Adelphi and can usually get to class in 10 minutes or less just by walking.

Also, I’m pretty sure Stony Brook has huge lecture halls with hundreds of students, while classes at Adelphi have no more than 40 students. Do you care if your professors know your name, or is being a number on an attendance list okay? Some students learn better in a small class environment while others are fine in big lecture halls.

I have friends at both universities who are having a great time, so it really just depends on what you prefer

Class size is not really an issue for me it’s more about how good the programs are and I got direct admission to the cs program at every school I applied to

The CUNY Macaulay Honors program has a fantastic track record. Lehman has probably one of the most attractive and most stereotypical “traditional” college campuses in the CUNY system. Except for the train station next door you would never know you’re in New York City.

Do you think that if I choose maccaulay at Lehman il have the same chance at getting into a good grad school for comp sci because people I know have been getting me worried about choosing Lehman because they say it’s a bad school even though I love how maccaulay sounds

Stony Brook has an excellent computer science department. It’s like top 30-40 for graduate departments - which don’t translate directly to undergrad rankings but do have an influence. I would say that it’s clearly the best school on your list.

However, the Macaulay Honors program at the CUNY schools is also great (although one does wonder, for CS, why not City College instead of Lehman). Lehman is a pretty good college; the most important question is whether you’ll have access to research opportunities with professors on Lehman’s campus. I know that CUNY has a computer science program with professors doing research but given the nature of the college the professors could be located at a different CUNY location.

You can get into a good graduate school from any of these colleges.

I got almost full rides to Adelphi and Manhattan college"

Full ride as in full tuition AND R&B or just full tuition?

Why did you select Lehman as your top choice for the Macaulay Honors Program. It is probably the weakest of the 4-year CUNY institutions for computer science (CCNY>>Hunter>>Queens>>Brooklyn, would have been better choices). I would be surprise if you got any appreciable scholarship from Stony Brook (beyond student loans, Pell Grant and TAP…if you qualify). I think Stony Brook would offer the better CS program of four named schools in the OP.

I selected Lehman as my top choice for maccaulay because it is the smallest maccaulay program only taking 20 students so you really get the best maccaulay experience because you get individualized attention and you really get to become close with the other students since there are only 20 of you and the campus is beautiful and none of the cuny cs programs are great they’re all average so there all just as good for cs but if I get the honors program at stony brook I will consider it and for Adelphi and Manhattan I just got tuition not room and board

Do you think that the honors program at stony brook is much better than maccaulay if I get it or do you think it’s on the same level as macaulay
