Is the college of arts and sciences easier to get into than the college of engineering?

I don’t know the answer, but if someone is undecided about studying engineering or not, they are better off starting in engineering. At most colleges, it will be much easier to graduate on time if you later decide to transfer from engineering to arts and sciences, than visa versa.

This is a question posed each year. You can use the search function at the top right of the forum to find previous posts. The e’school tends to be a self selecting bunch. If you want to get down to scores and GPA the e’school is higher. That’s a 2-D look at a very 3-D (holistic) admissions process. Each school is looking for different things. What might garner an admit in one may not in another regardless of higher or lower stats.

Charlie’s advise is correct, if you have any interest in engineering it’s much easier to start in engineering and move to CLAS then to go from CLAS to engineering. It’s not a matter of ‘being allowed’, it’s a matter of finishing in eight semesters (which is what you are given at UVa). You’d find yourself overloading semesters, which you don’t want, or taking classes over a summer session (which is quite common due to the eight semester limitation).
