first Muir and i got in. i chose it because i saw on the web that it is more flexible. some of my friends choosing college depended on the symbol of each college.

Hopefully they don’t choose their university like that as well.

Got in Marshall! I am happy with that choice!
P.S. Econ Major!

I got into Muir, have no frikkin idea if that’s a good thing or not. :/

Warren was my first and I got into Warren :).

I am a math major

First choice was Marshall and got into Marshall

History major

I put Sixth as my first choice and got in.

I don’t even remember what else I chose because I knew I would get in to Sixth. But to me they seemed the most community-oriented, the liveliest, they have good dorms that support community (I didn’t see the other dorms, but I live in dorms now, so I know what to look for), and their philosophy is pretty much everything I live by.

I actually didn’t look at their GEs, but I am a NanoEngineering major with an interdisciplinary interest in writing and other art forms, so I just trusted the “Culture, Art, and Technology” philosophy to guide me in the right direction.

I’m curious as to why the rest of you chose what you did? It’s obvious that there are certain favorites (not that that’s a bad thing) and I want to know why you guys chose certain ones over others.

I’m a Human Biology major and I got Marshall. From what I’ve seen, it seems like they take your list with a grain of salt. Hardly anyone I know got their first choice, and when they did, they also got into Ivies (and incidentally are mostly EECS majors going to Berkeley who wanted Warren), a. However, some of my friends who got into schools like Cornell and Berkeley didn’t get their first choice either.

The only overarching theme I’ve observed from the college placement process is that whatever college’s motto best suited your essay seems to be where they placed you. For examples, my essays spoke strongly of my dream to go to medical school in order to serve the underprivileged in poorer countries, quite similar to Marshall’s motto of developing the scholar and citizen. Another one of my friends put Revelle 5th on her list and got it, even though she was accepted to an abundance of Ivies. Her essays spoke of her desire to have a well-rounded education and take all sorts of classes, most similar to Revelle’s academic philosophy.

^ That’s funny because almost everyone at my school was admitted to their first choice colleges.

I was rejected to Cal and UCLA, but was accepted to my first choice, Warren. I think your hypothesis stands, though. My second essay was about finding what I’m good at and harnessing those skills. This seems to fit Warren’s philosophy more than the other colleges’.

^ My essay was about how art and design has influenced me, and I was put into Sixth, which was my 3rd or 4th choice. I’m now very happy with the assignment, and it makes perfect sense to me. Many of the GEs overlap with my major requirements. My only complaint is the lack of variety at Foodworx; but it’s my own fault for being too lazy to walk across campus for other dining options.
